Reports indicate the U.S. special forces used advanced technology, including Anthropic’s AI tool Claude, integrated with Palantir’s systems commonly used by national defense and law enforcement agencies.
“We cannot comment on whether Claude, or any other AI model, was used for any specific operation, classified or otherwise,” an Anthropic spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The company stated, “Any use of Claude — whether in the private sector or across government — is required to comply with our Usage Policies, which govern how Claude can be deployed. We work closely with our partners to ensure compliance.”
The Department of War chose not to comment when reached about the tool’s deployment during the mission.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Anthropic was the first AI model developer engaged in classified operations by the Department of War. The Pentagon has discussed canceling its contract with Anthropic due to concerns about the application of artificial intelligence in warfare.
These AI systems can range from document summarization to the management of autonomous military platforms. The Trump administration has consistently emphasized the importance of developing AI capabilities to maintain national security.
In December, War Secretary Pete Hegseth stated, “the future of American warfare is here, and it’s spelled AI.”
He continued, “As technologies advance, so do our adversaries. But here at the War Department, we are not sitting idly by.”
