Al Green Censured by 10 Democrats for Heckling Trump

Clear Facts
- The House of Representatives voted 224 to 198 to censure Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green for disrupting President Trump’s joint address to Congress.
- Ten Democrats joined Republicans in voting to censure Green, with two Democrats voting “present.”
- Following the censure, the House Freedom Caucus proposed stripping Green of his committee assignments due to his disruptive behavior.
In a recent session of the House of Representatives, Democratic Texas Rep. Al Green found himself at the center of controversy after being censured for his conduct during President Trump’s joint address to Congress. The vote to censure Green was largely divided along party lines, with a final tally of 224 to 198. Notably, ten Democrats broke ranks to side with Republicans in censuring Green, while two opted to vote “present.”
The resolution described Green’s actions as a “breach of proper conduct,” citing his creation of “numerous disruptions” during the address. Among the Democrats who voted for censure were Ami Bera and Jim Costa of California, Ed Case of Hawaii, Laura Gillen and Tom Suozzi of New York, Jim Himes of Connecticut, Chrissy Houlahan of Pennsylvania, Marcy Kaptur of Ohio, Jared Moskowitz of Florida, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington. Suozzi, Kaptur, and Gluesenkamp Perez represent districts that Trump won in the last election, making them potentially vulnerable incumbents.
Speaker Mike Johnson was firm in his response, instructing the House sergeant-of-arms to remove Green when he refused to cease his interruptions. Johnson criticized Green’s actions as “shameful and egregious,” urging House Democrats to support the censure.
“Any Democrat who is concerned about regaining the trust and respect of the American people should join House Republicans in this effort,” Johnson stated.
In a dramatic turn, Green and his Democratic colleagues disrupted the proceedings by singing “We shall overcome,” prompting a brief recess. The House Freedom Caucus responded by filing a resolution to strip Green of his committee assignments. Chair Andy Harris expressed dissatisfaction with the censure, stating, “We think the punishment was inadequate given that Mr. Green and the Democrats are still willing to disrupt the floor.”
Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett suggested that expelling Green might be a necessary step to restore order. “That would be a reasonable consideration,” Burchett remarked, emphasizing the need to “restore decorum.”
Democratic leadership, however, defended Green’s actions. Democratic Whip Katherine Clark dismissed concerns about decorum, while Democratic Texas Rep. Greg Casar argued that Green was exercising his First Amendment rights. “He is just exhibiting his First Amendment right to tell the truth,” Casar noted.
The censure resolution, introduced by Republican Washington Rep. Dan Newhouse, emphasized the importance of maintaining decorum and order in Congress. “Decorum and order are the institutional grounds for the way we do business in the United States Congress,” Newhouse wrote.
Despite the censure, Green remained defiant, accepting the punishment but standing by his actions. “I’ll accept the punishment,” Green told reporters. “It’s worth it to let people know that there’s some of us who are going to stand up against this president’s desire to cut Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.”
Green has been a vocal critic of Trump, having previously introduced articles of impeachment during Trump’s first term, although none were successful.

How do we show our children what respectful manners are if we allow public servants to lack decorum and basic manners in front of a national audience. Is Rep. Green to be an example for our youth…,and then we wonder why young adults lack the manners taught by our parents.
Rep. Green owes the American public he represents a public apology.

Absolutely not! Where were your comments when former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden were called “ liars” during their addresses to congress by Republicans?!!Also, how do you explain to OUR children that we have a convicted felon as a president of this country who is destroying everything sacred here within his corruption and cronyism and who has narcissistic personality disorder!!! Explain that!!

By your very words, you condone all of the waste & mismanagement Liberal Democrats have caused and enjoyed with kickbacks. And you consider yourself an American?!? Any red blooded American would be all for eliminating wasteful spending & unnecessary programs in order to get back in the black and allow this country to do better than we have when Biden & his corrupt handlers were in control.
I prefer someone like Trump who was wrongfully convicted as a felon to lead our country, because he knows what is needed to drain the swamp & clean house, over any corrupt political criminal we have in office. The Liberals have shown their hand to be thoroughly rotten to the core… like fruit that has fallen from its tree and decomposing.

You cannot prove one corrupt thing about President Biden. Obviously, you only care about money and not all of the devastation this idiot, Trump, and his pal, UNELECTED Musk, has caused thus far to the common man!! “Wrongly convicted “… that is laughable considering he was tried by jury of his peers! See if you can google that since you probably don’t know how to use a dictionary!
By the way, pay real attention to the news so you can learn that Trump is “ the swamp”!!

Don’t forget Greene wanted to impeach Trump again this past month. He has terminal TDS like so many other Democrats. Their paddles used during the speech should be used on their respective behinds!

Why should they since the lying piece of doggie dodo was lying? Don’t ask what he was lying about because if you don’t know, me telling you will not solve your ignorance.
And before you get your panties all in a twist over the word “ignorance”, look up the definition, assuming you are capable of doing so.

Please read Romans 13:1 to 7 in your holy Bible. We are US citizens that we must respect our President Donald Trump who is the chosen person (as ordained) of God to minister in our USA. We must be subject to the higher powers.

Trump has made it clear he will not cut Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security payments to those qualifying for them. Congressman Green apparently wants the dead people receiving payments to continue doing so. Wondering how he is comfortable protesting things not happening. Looks foolish.

It’s a wonderful day when the Democrats see reason and side with true Republicans on an issue… such as when Al Green Stood up and ranted for abit of time thus disrupting Trump’s speech. Who would’ve thought some Democrats would add their names to the list to censure Green as they did?!?
