In a surprising turn of events, HBO host Bill Maher recently shared insights from a dinner he attended at the White House with President Donald Trump. The dinner, which also included UFC President Dana White and musician Kid Rock, took place in late March.
During his “Real Time with Bill Maher” show, Maher described Trump as a “possible friend” and criticized those who suggested he should have refused the invitation due to political disagreements.
Maher candidly discussed various policy disagreements with Trump, noting the president’s calm demeanor during their conversations. He stated, “Honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk with Donald Trump.”
Maher highlighted that this interaction was “emblematic of why the Democrats are so unpopular these days.”
The comedian elaborated on his disagreements with the Democratic Party, particularly on issues like Israel’s conflict with Hamas, child sex changes, and biological men competing in women’s sports. He shared a memorable moment from the dinner, saying, “So MAGA fans, don’t worry, your boy gave me nothing, just hats.”
Maher appreciated Trump’s willingness to listen and accept him as a “possible friend” despite their differing views. He recounted a humorous exchange, “My favorite part of the whole night was [when] we were standing in the blowjob room — we were — and he said, ‘You know, I’ve heard from a lot of people who really like that we’re having this dinner. Not all, but a lot.’ And I said ‘Same. A lot of people told me they loved it, but not all.’”
The discussion drew applause from Maher’s audience, especially when referencing former President Bill Clinton’s infamous scandal. Maher then criticized those who disapproved of his attendance, particularly targeting Democratic Sen. Cory Booker’s lengthy Senate speech.
“Don’t talk. As opposed to what, writing the same editorial for the millionth time and making 25-hour speeches into the wind?” Maher questioned. “Really, that’s what liberals have? He takes the piss out of everybody else and we can hold ours?”
Concluding his report, Maher acknowledged potential backlash for his honest account, stating, “Okay, that’s my report. You can hate me for it, but I’m not a liar. Trump was gracious and measured and why he isn’t that in other settings, I don’t know and I can’t answer.”
Maher humorously added, “And I wasn’t high. Damn! Missed opportunity.”
This unexpected dinner and Maher’s reflections have sparked discussions on the importance of open dialogue across political divides.

I’m surprised that Maher accepted the invite! I’ve always tbought of him as a ‘rabid’ Democrat. Hopefully more will be willing to at least talk about political differences.
