The aftermath of the incident has left at least six individuals in the hospital. A representative from Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare reported that one person is in critical condition, while the others are in serious condition.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is actively involved in managing the situation. In a statement released at 12:40 p.m. Eastern Time, they assured the public that more updates would follow as the situation develops.
“FDLE is actively engaged in the incident on FSU’s campus, and we will update the public with more information as soon as possible,” they stated.
FSU has taken precautionary measures by canceling all classes and university events scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025. This includes athletic events.
“Continue to shelter in place. Police have responded to an active shooter call at the Student Union. Stay alert for more information,” FSU communicated via social media.
The university further advised, “Lock and stay away from all doors and windows and be prepared to take additional protective measures.”
Sarah Cannon, a spokesperson for Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, confirmed that the hospital is treating those affected by the incident. However, she could not provide specific numbers regarding the individuals in their care, as the situation remains ongoing.
