Georgia House candidate Suzanna Karatassos, a self-described progressive, recently called for severe restrictions on the free speech of American citizens. She suggested that after Democrats regain total control, individuals who voted for Donald Trump three times should be barred from posting online.
“When this is all over and Trump’s gone and Democrats are back in charge and we’re rebuilding everything, the punishment for MAGA for voting for Trump three times needs to be they remove their internet access for four years,” Karatassos said.
The candidate initially shared these views in a video that has since been deleted from her primary accounts. She argued that the removal of these voices is necessary to prevent the public from being subjected to what she deems misinformation while the nation is rebuilt.
“That they cannot post videos or comments on social media for four straight years, so that none of us are subjected to their lies and misinformation while we are rebuilding the chaos that they caused the whole world and America gets to be without their BS online for 4 straight years,” she added.
The proposal highlights an ongoing trend of activists and officials targeting conservative speech under the guise of protecting the public.
Federal judges have previously cited dozens of instances where administrative officials pressured social media platforms to suppress protected political discourse.
The Supreme Court eventually reviewed these censorship concerns in a 6-3 decision, though the ruling was based on legal standing rather than the merits of the free speech claims.
Conservative justices noted their dissent, maintaining that government-led suppression of citizens remains a critical constitutional concern.
This rhetoric from candidates at the state level reflects a broader push to criminalize or silence traditional American political participation.
Karatassos concluded her video by asking her followers if they could all agree to this form of digital exile for their neighbors.
