Clear Facts

  • Oscar Solarzano, a Honduran national with a criminal record, was charged for allegedly stabbing a man on a Charlotte light rail train.
  • Solarzano was previously deported twice from the U.S., once during the Trump administration and again under the Biden administration, but reentered illegally each time.
  • Officials and lawmakers blame lenient Democrat policies for allowing illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds to remain in the country.

On Friday night, Kenyon Dobie was seriously injured after being stabbed on the Lynx Blue Line in Charlotte. Police quickly arrested Oscar Solarzano, 33, who now faces attempted first degree murder along with four other charges.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Solarzano is a two-time deported illegal immigrant from Honduras who managed to reenter the U.S. several times.

Authorities stated that Solarzano has prior arrests for crimes like aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Magistrate Rebecca Howell confirmed Solarzano’s illegal status and ordered him held without bond, while the victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Solarzano is scheduled for a court appearance on Monday. This attack happened on the same rail line where, just months ago, Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was killed by another offender with a violent record.

Republican Rep. Mark Harris criticized Democrat leaders, stating in his X post,

“Oscar Solarzano was previously deported and then illegally entered our country AGAIN.”

He continued,

“These are the folks NC’s pro-crime Democrats want to keep on the streets.”

Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley also blamed Democrat Roy Cooper for blocking measures to assist law enforcement in cooperating with ICE.

He stated,

“While Governor, he BLOCKED legislation which would have forced sheriffs to work with ICE – leaving North Carolinians vulnerable.”

This case continues to highlight concerns over illegal immigration, public safety, and the effectiveness of current policies in North Carolina.
