Clear Facts

  • Vice President Kamala Harris criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for reportedly not taking her calls about federal storm relief efforts.
  • Governor DeSantis claimed he was unaware of any calls from Harris and denied that his office ignored her outreach.
  • The dispute arises as Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, approaches Florida, following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helen.

Vice President Kamala Harris has publicly criticized Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis for allegedly ignoring her calls concerning federal storm relief efforts. This comes as Florida braces for the impact of Hurricane Milton, a formidable Category 5 storm.

Harris expressed her frustration, stating, “People are in desperate need of support right now and playing political games at this moment in these crisis situations…is just utterly irresponsible, and it is selfish.”

Reports suggested that DeSantis was not taking Harris’s calls, with unnamed aides claiming the calls appeared political. However, DeSantis, when questioned at a hurricane news conference, denied any knowledge of Harris’s attempts to contact him.

“I didn’t know that she had called. I’m not sure who they called. They didn’t call me,” DeSantis responded.
“It wasn’t anything that anybody in my office did, in terms of saying it was political.”

The tension between Harris and DeSantis is occurring amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Helen, which left significant destruction across several states, including Florida. The federal response to these natural disasters has become a focal point in the political arena, especially with the upcoming elections.

President Biden recently visited the storm-affected areas, including Florida, but DeSantis chose not to attend the event with the President. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre remarked, “We were in Florida, we invited the governor of Florida to come, it was his decision not to attend.”

Despite the political friction, DeSantis acknowledged the federal assistance received, stating, “We have gotten what we need from the feds….the president has approved what we asked for….I’m thankful for that.”

As the nation gears up for the 2024 election, the politics of disaster relief are increasingly under scrutiny, with Harris and former President Trump engaging in a heated exchange over the federal response to Hurricane Helen. Harris accused Trump of spreading “a lot of mis and disinformation,” adding another layer to the ongoing political discourse.

Harris never called DeSantis before when there were other storms. Harris is phony, a liar and acts like she is all that. Its all politics with her. Ron did a great job. He was on top of everything. Very caring and professional.

This woman is desperate for attention and a troublemaker. Perhaps she’s had too much wine and now we know she also partakes of beer also. Yet again she is making herself look like the fool that she is. People in Florida and other states are dealing with both storms and you have the nerve to pull this stunt so you can get attention for yourself? You don’t care about the people who have been impacted by this tragedy. You are selfish and self serving-can we say narcissist?
DeSantis is doing the right thing-super prepared and coordinating everything that he possibly can to get Florida back to normal. Good Job Ron!!!!
