Officer Faces Brutal Attack Protecting NY Streets

An early morning assault at Brooklyn’s 73rd Precinct left one NYPD officer injured by a knife-wielding assailant, who was subsequently shot by police.

The suspect, carrying a 14-inch butcher knife, entered through an employee entrance at 5:28 a.m. and attacked when directed to the front door.

The wounded officer, whose parents both have careers in law enforcement, blocked some of the force but endured cuts to her head and ear.

Despite her injuries, she joined fellow officers to pursue the fleeing attacker.

The suspect ran two blocks toward a housing project, ignoring police commands to drop the weapon, and ultimately charged at officers with the knife, resulting in his death.

PBA President Patrick Hendry commended the officer’s courage.

“She could have been killed here. This knife was coming right for her, but she was able to block off. She used incredible skill, and thank God she was able to do that, and she was able to save many lives out here on the street because we don’t know what he was capable of doing,” Hendry said.

The officer was treated at a local hospital, where her parents visited her, and one of whom still serves as a detective.

“She knew that her goal was to get this individual off the streets,” Hendry said.

“She knew that he was a danger to the people in this neighborhood, and she didn’t care that she was injured at that point. She wanted to stop the threat, and that’s what she did.”

NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera provided confirmation of the event at a Sunday press briefing.
