Clear Facts

  • FBI Director Kash Patel testified before the House Judiciary Committee after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
  • Chairman Jim Jordan criticized past FBI actions against conservatives and praised Patel for reforms.
  • Patel addressed criticism regarding the firing of senior FBI officials and his social media statements about the suspect.

FBI Director Kash Patel faced lawmakers on Capitol Hill for questions following the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, drawing bipartisan scrutiny of the bureau’s actions and reforms in the second Trump administration.

Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, condemned previous FBI tactics allegedly used against conservative Americans and commended Patel for shifting the agency’s direction.

No more spying on parents at school board meetings.

No more pre-dawn raids on pro-life Catholics, no more retaliation against whistle-blowers, and he’s given us information that Chris Wray didn’t. Maybe said better, he’s given us information that Chris Wray wouldn’t.

Patel opened the hearing by discussing the investigation into Kirk’s murder, noting he authorized the release of footage that helped identify the suspect.

It’s important for this FBI to be transparent without jeopardizing our investigation.

Ranking Democrat Jamie Raskin acknowledged the gravity of Kirk’s killing and took issue with Patel’s public communication during the manhunt for the alleged killer, Tyler Robinson.

When Charlie Kirk was assassinated, while his killer was still on the loose, you decided you didn’t need to be at FBI headquarters in Washington to work with your team.

While the chaotic manhunt unfolded, you spent your evening dining in a swanky midtown Manhattan restaurant and tweeting out false information that the subject of the shooting was in custody, a statement you had to retract one hour later.

Patel admitted he could have phrased his post differently but defended it as an effort at transparency. Lawmakers also pressed Patel about the firings of senior FBI officials and lingering frustrations among conservatives over the handling of the Epstein case.

Stay informed as the hearing continues to raise important questions about political accountability and law enforcement transparency.
