Raleigh Shatters Home Run Records for Mariners

Cal Raleigh made baseball history in Kansas City by hitting his 55th and 56th home runs of the season during a commanding Mariners win. The 28-year-old’s achievements broke legendary records and played a major role in the Mariners’ standings.
His first home run came from the left side of the plate, sending a curveball from Michael Wacha into the right-field seats to put Seattle ahead early. The next inning, Raleigh switched sides and launched a changeup from Daniel Lynch IV over the center-field wall, building an even larger lead for his team.
“It’s really cool. I’m humbled by it. A crazy kind of thing I never thought would happen,” Raleigh said, reflecting on his big night and what it meant for his career.
“Just taking it day-by-day, pitch-by-pitch. Really enjoying every day with these guys, and just trying to finish the season strong.”
Raleigh is now tied with Ken Griffey Jr. for the most home runs by a Mariner in a single season and leads all switch-hitters in MLB history. His 56 homers are paired with a .247 batting average, 118 runs batted in, and 14 stolen bases.
Currently, Raleigh and Aaron Judge stand as top contenders for this year’s American League MVP award. The Mariners are holding onto first place by a slim margin in the AL West, with the Houston Astros close behind.
Seattle looks to hold their division lead as they continue their series against the Royals this week.
