Senate Race Shaken by Controversial Claim

Clear Facts
- Left-wing podcaster Morgan accused Texas State Rep. James Talarico of making a controversial remark about former Rep. Colin Allred in a TikTok video.
- James Talarico is running for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination, while Jasmine Crockett and Colin Allred are also involved in the Texas race.
- Both Morgan and Colin Allred responded publicly to the allegations, with Allred directly addressing Talarico’s statement.
State Rep. James Talarico has been accused by podcaster Morgan of calling former Rep. Colin Allred a “mediocre black man.” The claim was made on TikTok as Morgan explained her concerns about Talarico’s campaign approach.
“James Talarico told me that he signed up to run against a mediocre black man, not a formidable and intelligent black woman, and I want to explain why this is problematic, especially as he shifted his current approach in the Texas Senate race,” Morgan stated.
Morgan said she previously supported Talarico but changed her mind after Crockett entered the race. She insisted her decision to come forward was based on responsibility to voters, not part of any “smear campaign.” Morgan claimed to have proof their conversation took place.
“I planned on voting for him when he was running against Colin Allred, the mediocre black man that he’s referring to,” Morgan added.
Morgan emphasized Allred’s accomplishments but felt compelled to reveal the alleged statement. She also expressed unease with Talarico’s recent campaign messaging and his perceived dismissal of concerns important to black voters.
“Now, up until this comment, the conversation was going well,” Morgan said. “That’s why it threw me off so much to have a white man say this to a black woman who was coming to him with concerns in relation to him for black people.”
Although Morgan criticized Talarico, she acknowledged he was preferable to Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. However, she announced her backing for Jasmine Crockett.
“I stand by my statements that he’s way better than Ken Paxton, who’s the current front runner for Republicans and a terror that we’re trying to protect the rest of the country from, but this isn’t someone I feel comfortable being in office when we have a truly amazing candidate like Jasmine Crockett as an option,” Morgan said. “So yes, I’m voting for Jasmine Crockett for Senate, and I encourage you to do so as well.”
Colin Allred, in a post on X, responded to the alleged remarks. He criticized Talarico’s behavior and provided his own perspective on how to address black voters and candidates respectfully.
“I understand that James Talarico had the temerity and the audacity to say to a black woman that he had signed up to run against a mediocre black man, meaning me, not a formidable, intelligent black woman, meaning Jasmine Crockett,” Allred said. “Let me just break this down into a few segments here. First of all, let me just give you some free advice, James. If you want to compliment black women, just do it. Just do it. Don’t do it while also tearing down a black man, OK?”
This development has drawn national attention as Talarico currently leads Crockett in the latest Democratic primary polling.
