Authorities responded swiftly after a car intentionally crashed into the doors of a major Jewish site in Brooklyn on Wednesday night. Immediate inspection by the bomb squad found no explosives, and the driver was detained by law enforcement.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated the department is treating the case as a hate crime investigation.
Chabad Lubavitch spokesperson Motti Seligson confirmed there were no reported injuries.
The driver reportedly told bystanders and police that “it slipped” and mentioned attempting to park.
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon announced, “I have instructed our criminal prosecutors in @CivilRights to open a civil rights investigation into this violent attack.”
Mayor Zohran Mamdani described the attack as “deeply alarming,” emphasizing that “antisemitism has no place in our city.” He added, “Any threat to a Jewish institution or place of worship must be taken seriously. Antisemitism has no place in our city, and violence or intimidation against Jewish New Yorkers is unacceptable.”
