Texas University Expulsions After Disturbing Vigil Incident

A Texas State University student was expelled after a video surfaced of him imitating Charlie Kirk’s killing during a memorial event hosted by a local Turning Point USA chapter.
The male student, wearing a backpack, was seen cursing at attendees and pretending to be shot, drawing outrage.
He approached a statue, stated, “Hi, my name is Charlie Kirk,” and then acted out the shooting, falling to the ground.
Governor Greg Abbott posted on X, “Hey Texas State. This conduct is not accepted at our schools. Expel this student immediately. Mocking assassination must have consequences.”
Texas State President Kelly Damphousse stated the university identified the individual and responded decisively.
“I will not tolerate behavior that mocks, trivializes, or promotes violence on our campuses,” Damphousse said. “It is antithetical to our TXST values. The individual is no longer a student at TXST.”
Damphousse mentioned federal law restricted further comment on student matters.
The day before, a Texas Tech student named Camryn Giselle Booker was also expelled after being arrested for yelling profanities and making threats at another Kirk vigil.
Booker was charged with misdemeanor assault, and Texas Tech confirmed she is no longer enrolled.
This swift action by both universities demonstrates a commitment to upholding order and condemning behavior that mocks or encourages violence.
Upholding respect for those mourning and maintaining campus safety are priorities, especially in moments that challenge traditional values.
