Trump Pushes for Voter ID Order Before Elections

President Trump said on Truth Social that if Congress fails to enact voter ID laws, he will issue an executive order to enforce them nationwide for the midterm elections.
He emphasized his commitment to election integrity by stating,
“If we can’t get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly, in the form of an Executive Order.”
He later added,
“There will be Voter I.D. for the Midterm Elections, whether approved by Congress or not!”
The House passed the SAVE America Act by a slim margin, with all Republicans and one Democrat voting in favor. The bill mandates documentary proof of citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, and photo identification at polling places in federal elections.
The measure now faces a difficult path in the Senate, requiring 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, and with some Republicans already stating their opposition.
Recent polling from August 2025 finds that 83% of Americans support government-issued photo ID to vote. Support spans party lines, with 95% of Republicans, 71% of Democrats, and 84% of independents in agreement.
Some legal hurdles remain, as a federal judge ruled last year that only Congress and the states hold election authority, blocking a similar executive action. Despite this, Trump insists on moving forward, arguing the issue is essential for protecting the electoral process.
Trump declared,
“We cannot let the Democrats get away with NO VOTER I.D. any longer. These are horrible, disingenuous CHEATERS… No Voter I.D. is even crazier, and more ridiculous, than Men playing in Women’s Sports, Open Borders, or Transgender for Everyone. Republicans must put this at the top of every speech — It is a CAN’T MISS FOR RE-ELECTION IN THE MIDTERMS, AND BEYOND! Even Democrat Voters agree, 85%, that there should be Voter I.D. It’s only the Political ‘Leaders,’ Crooked Losers like Schumer and Jeffries, that have no shame, and explain why it’s ‘racist’… This is an issue that must be fought, and must be fought, NOW! If we can’t get it through Congress, there are Legal reasons why this SCAM is not permitted. I will be presenting them shortly, in the form of an Executive Order.”
The debate continues as the bill’s fate now lies with the Senate. Americans remain strongly supportive of ensuring secure and fair elections for the nation’s future.
