Elon Musk, Antonio Gracias, and the DOGE team have exposed the scale of immigration fraud and government mismanagement under the Biden administration.

They revealed that asylum seekers can file for work authorization just five months after applying, with no costs or fees for the initial application.

This system creates opportunities for fraudulent asylum requests. According to ICE, “ICE deported 174 criminal migrants from Texas, including a man with 39 illegal entries.”

Venezuelan migrants have been flown from Guantanamo Bay through Honduras, arriving back in Venezuela, highlighting the extent of deportation efforts.

While the government takes years to process asylum claims, work authorization applications are approved in just months, allowing those who file—even fraudulently—to work and access benefits for years.

Asylum was originally meant to protect the persecuted, but the process is now being widely abused for work permits and government benefits, including driver’s licenses.

DHS issued so many employment documents that it could not keep pace with renewals, prompting a rule change in December 2024 to automatically extend authorization by 18 months.

This extension was granted without individually reviewing whether recipients should remain authorized to work.

Gracias presented data showing an explosion in Social Security numbers given to new aliens: 270,000 in 2021, jumping to around 2.1 million in 2024.

Gracias stated, “The defaults in the system from Social Security to all the benefit programs have been set to max inclusion, max pay for these people. And minimum collection.”

Medicaid already covers 1.3 million aliens, and investigations uncovered cases of aliens registered to vote and some who actually voted.

This points to serious abuse of administrative power in granting work authorization, a process Congress must urgently address.

Restoring control would require legislation to ensure that work authorization is granted only after asylum approval. Applicants should be required to have a sponsor to guarantee their financial needs during the wait.

Congress must implement stricter anti-fraud measures to reduce fake asylum claims and clear the backlog for legitimate requests.

DOGE must identify and remove fraudulent applications from agency backlogs to expedite legitimate cases and restore integrity to the process.

Automatic notifications should ensure that any denial of benefits results in immediate termination of all related assistance, employment, or voter registration.

This approach would ensure that if an application is denied, all government agencies and employers are promptly informed, preventing further abuse and supporting removals where appropriate.

By taking these steps now, America can prioritize citizens’ benefits, reduce the deportable alien population, and strengthen compliance with immigration law.
