Clear Facts

  • Swedish pop singer Zara Larsson posted on Instagram expressing support for criminals and leftist causes, while stating her hatred for ICE.
  • Larsson’s post followed anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis that resulted in arrests and property damage.
  • She defended her statements, linking her views to her boyfriend’s inability to enter the U.S. due to a drug conviction.

Zara Larsson voiced controversial support for a range of left-wing causes, including welfare, socialism, and open opposition to U.S. immigration enforcement. She posted this after anti-ICE demonstrations in Minneapolis resulted in several arrests for acts of vandalism and forced entry at downtown hotels.

“I love criminals,” Larsson wrote on Instagram, also stating support for immigrants, trans people, abortions, queers, slutty women, contraception, welfare, and socialism, before adding, “I f*cking hate ICE.”

Larsson claimed criticism of her beliefs came from her boyfriend’s inability to visit the U.S. due to a past marijuana charge. She argued that many, particularly minorities, face harsh penalties for non-violent offenses because of old policies.

“We spend months and months apart every year because of a little spliff over 6 years ago,” she explained. “I’m just saying there’s thousands and thousands of people who go to jail and prison over non-violent crimes like drugs, mostly black and brown people because of Ronald Reagan being racist in the 80s.”

The singer also described ICE agents as “criminals,” accusing them of violence and hate. Larsson addressed criticism of her grammar and presented her remarks as a call for love, even for those she referred to as “evil clowns.”

Her statements surfaced as demonstrations continued in Minneapolis, following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent. The incident drew continued protests and marchers in the city.

Federal authorities had increased their presence in Minnesota due to large-scale fraud investigations, with a special focus on cases involving Somali nationals, as detailed by a U.S. attorney.

Larsson, who lives in Sweden, continues to engage with American political issues from abroad.
