BLM Activist Turns Conservative Influencer After Awakening

Xaviaer DuRousseau, now known for his conservative commentary with PragerU, previously marched for Black Lives Matter and grew up in a progressive environment in Chicago.

After moving to a predominantly White community and attending college, he became deeply involved in social justice activism.

He said

“Even to this day, every time I hear about my BLM protesting days, I still cringe. It was the most ghetto mess I ever participated in.”

DuRousseau’s turnaround began when he researched conservative content to prepare for a reality show.

He found his own beliefs changing in the process and decided to withdraw from the show after his research caused him to reconsider his stance.

“I accidentally red-pilled myself.”

He stated.

He explained that his primary concern was BLM’s financial operations.

He observed firsthand the lack of clarity around where donations were sent and saw prominent voices question the group’s spending.

“Every time I would ask those questions, people would tell me that, like, I had lost the plot or that I needed to mind my business and stay in my lane.”

DuRousseau recalled.

DuRousseau noted.

“I started seeing that BLM was taking their money through ActBlue and putting it towards these progressive activists and these progressive causes and to politicians. And these politicians were doing absolutely nothing in the Black community.”

Investigations by federal prosecutors are underway regarding the handling of tens of millions in BLM donations made during 2020.

They are focusing on potential donor fraud.

“It wasn’t going towards police reform or anything of the sort. So when I realized how fraudulent that was, it was like this domino effect of me realizing, ‘Oh, BLM, it’s not just a scam of a movement, it’s a scam as an organization and the left is 100% a part of it.'”

DuRousseau added.

Today, DuRousseau’s mission is to encourage critical thinking and questioning.

He focuses especially on audiences discouraged from stepping outside ideological constraints.

“My goal is simply to get people to critically think again because we are at this point where so many people are afraid to ask questions or afraid to be honest or afraid to have a thought that strays from the box that they were told that they had to think inside of.”

He explained.

The change in his political views caused friction within his family.

Loved ones distanced themselves from him due to their disagreement.

“Many people of my own family wanted absolutely nothing to do with me.”

He admitted.

“I didn’t speak to my own father for a couple of years.”

“My eldest brother — it’s been five years — still thinks that I’m a Ku Klux Klan member and is still trying to understand how being a White supremacist would benefit me.”

“But, according to them, that’s what they think.”

Over time, some relationships have improved as former critics began to reconsider their initial reactions.

Differences of opinion remain.

“Over the years, I’ve had some family members start to realize I was right.”

DuRousseau shared.

“I’ve more friends, over the years, from the past, that have come forward.”

“Even if they don’t fully agree with me now, they at least apologize for how emotional they were in their response to everything that happened in 2020.”
