WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland has not ruled out possibly charging former President Trump over Jan. 6.
  • In an interview with NBC News, Garland vowed to charge “everybody who was criminally responsible for interfering with the peaceful transfer of power.”
  • Garland also said that Trump’s possible 2024 candidacy would not affect the department’s decision.

Attorney General Merrick Garland vowed Tuesday in an interview with NBC News, that he would charge “anyone who was criminally responsible” for the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

“We pursue justice without fear or favor,” Garland told anchor Lester Holt on “NBC Nightly News.”

When pressed on whether that could include former President Donald Trump, the attorney general reiterated, “I’ll say again that we will hold accountable anyone who is criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the… legitimate, lawful transfer of power from one administration to the next.”

Also on Tuesday, the Washington Post reported that the Justice Department is “investigating President Donald Trump’s actions as part of its criminal probe of efforts to overturn the 2020 election results,” citing four individuals familiar with the matter.

Garland on Tuesday pushed back on criticism that the department has not been aggressive in its investigation of whether Trump and his allies broke the law in their efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The attorney general has been the target of mounting pressure as the House Jan. 6 select committee has presented evidence in a series of public hearings aimed at convincing voters and the Justice Department of Trump’s criminal responsibility.

Last week, a May 25 memo was disclosed in which Garland urged prosecutors to remain neutral and impartial in potentially sensitive investigations during the election year.

At that time, Garland told reporters that “no person is above the law in this country,” reiterating that he would pursue investigations after some advocates worried the memo indicated he would avoid investigating Trump.

“I can’t say it any more clearly than that,” the AG said. There is nothing in the principles of prosecution and any other factors which prevent us from investigating anyone – anyone – who is criminally responsible for an attempt to undo a democratic election.”

Garland praised the work of the Jan. 6 committee, saying “the hearings did an extremely good job of reminding us – and for people who didn’t know in the first place – telling us how important that day was, and what it meant for our democracy.”

If Garland does not prosecute Trump he will no doubt be impeached. If THE GOP takes the house, Garland will be impeached.
Question;. Does anyone actually think he is going to take the chance of being impeached and being the biggest coward in judicial history or take the chance of going down in history for letting those cowards get off the hook; Or at least trying to save democracy…
I think he’s gonna make America proud !!!

He better remember what he just said and ask Pelosi and the D.C. mayor why they refused to send extra help and the national guard. Instead, they said it wasn’t needed. And Don’t forget to investigate the FBI for inciting people to riot.
