WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • A woman lawfully carrying her pistol shot and killed a man who opened fire into a crowd in West Virginia.
  • The man, who was reportedly outraged when he was asked not to speed by the party, used an AR-15-style rifle.
  • No charges would be filed against the woman.

A West Virginia woman shot and killed a man who began firing an AR-15-style rifle into a crowd of people at a party on Wednesday night, police said.

The man was identified as 37-year-old Dennis Butler. He pulled out the rifle and opened fire at the people attending the birthday-graduation party outside an apartment complex in Charleston, according to the police.

The woman, who was not identified, was attending the party and legally carrying her pistol. She fired at Butler, killing him. No other injuries were reported.

“Upon further investigation, we quickly learned that the victim kind of turned into like a gunman,” Lt. Tony Hazelett of the Charleston Police Department said in a press conference aired by WCHS-TV.

Earlier in the evening, Butler was at the apartment complex in a vehicle and had been approached about speeding because children were playing.

“He got mad and then left the complex. Shortly after, he drove back and pulled up in front of the 1300 Renaissance. He got in the back seat and pulled an AR-style rifle and started firing into the crowd,” Hazelett said.

“A female bystander who was lawfully carrying her firearm pulled her firearm and shot him and killed him,” Hazelett said.

He also noted that the bystander was not a member of law enforcement.

“She’s just a member of the community who was carrying her firearm lawfully and instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Hazelett said.

Police have found no other motive for the shooting in their investigation, but Hazelett noted that Butler “did have an extensive criminal history.”

The woman did not leave the complex and waited for police to arrive, and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Hazelett said no charges would be filed against the woman.

Good job, lady! If there were a hell of a lot more armed citizens who knew how to use their weapon like this lady did, 90 percent of these stupid shootings would never occur. A shooter, whether being a mental case, a rage case, or especially gang related shooters, would think very seriously before they opened fire. Most of those shooters are spineless cowards who just wouldn’t take a chance of getting killed. Chicago had over 800 homocides in 2021 and 775 in 2020. The majority of those killings in Chicago were gang related. Way over a hundred of the victoms were children under the age of 15. If these gang members were well aware that there were armed citizens everywhere that are completely fed up with all this ridiculous killing, most of it wouldn’t happen. But, in Chicago, the gangs have a clear path to kill because they know citizens don’t carry guns. Criminals will always have guns! Guns are easy to make! If the Democrats disarm the public, this whole country will become just like Chicago and Mexico. All citizens will be in fear for their life because there will be no way to fight back.
