  • Critics slammed President Donald Trump for sharing a video that showed a supporter shouting “white power” twice.
  • The retweet has since been deleted, and the White House claimed that the president did not hear the racist statement when he shared it.
  • Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, along with other lawmakers, pointed out that Trump’s decision to share the video only supports claims that he is racist.

President Donald Trump received backlash on Sunday after he retweeted a video showing a supporter shouting “white power” twice.

The video showed Trump’s supporters having a golf cart parade while Trump’s critics rallied against them. The incident took place in The Villages, a retirement community in Florida.

When an anti-Trump protester shouted, “Where’s your white hood?” to imply that the man was a member of the Klu Klux Klan, the man replied, “Yeah, you got it. White power! White power!” while giving a thumbs up.

Trump retweeted the video with the caption: “Thank you to the great people of The Villages. The Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats will Fall in the Fall. Corrupt Joe is shot. See you soon!!!”

The retweet has since been deleted from Trump’s account, but several users shared screengrabs of the video playing on the president’s feed.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere attempted to defend the president, stating, “President Trump is a big fan of The Villages. He did not hear the one statement made on the video. What he did see was tremendous enthusiasm from his many supporters.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar also defended the administration, telling CNN, “Neither the president, his administration nor I would do anything to be supportive of white supremacy or anything that would support discrimination of any kind.”

Critics pointed out that Trump’s decision to share the video only supports their claims that Trump is racist.

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden declared on Twitter: “Today the President shared a video of people shouting ‘white power’ and said they were ‘great.’ Just like he did after Charlottesville. We’re in a battle for the soul of the nation – and the President has picked a side. But make no mistake: it’s a battle we will win.”

Biden was referring to the August 2017 incident in Charlottesville, Virginia, when a confrontation between white supremacists and counter-protesters left one woman dead. Trump had stated back then that there were “very fine people, on both sides.”

Former Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill tweeted, “We have actually gotten to the point in this horrific journey that the President of the United States has tweeted a video of his supporter shouting ‘White Power!’ He doesn’t deserve one single vote.”

Before the video was removed from Trump’s account, Republican Sen. Tim Scott appeared on CNN‘S “State of the Union” to call on the president to delete the post.

Scott called the video “offensive” and “indefensible,” and said that he refused to “play politics with it.”
