Biden Says He Plans to Run for Reelection in 2024 [Video]

• President Joe Biden said in an interview Wednesday that he plans to run for reelection in 2024.
• Biden said, “If I’m in the health I’m in now, if I’m in good health, then, in fact, I would run again.”
• The president added it’d “increase the prospect of running” if former President Donald Trump were to become the Republican nominee.

President Joe Biden said in an interview Wednesday that he plans to run for reelection in 2024.

Asked by ABC News’ David Muir if he plans to run again, Biden said “yes.”

“Yes. But look, I’m a great respecter of fate,” Biden said. “If I’m in the health I’m in now, if I’m in good health, then in fact I would run again.”

That means he could face Donald Trump if the former president were to become the Republican nominee. Muir went on to ask if he would run “if that means a rematch” against his predecessor.

“You’re trying to tempt me now,” Biden joked. “Sure, why would I not run against Donald Trump if he were the nominee? That’d increase the prospect of running.”

During the campaign for the 2020 presidential election, Biden said he planned to serve eight years in office if reelected.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed last month that Biden plans to run for reelection.

Trump, who repeatedly questioned the validity of the results of the 2020 election, has suggested he would run again in 2024.

Biden will be 82 and Trump 78 in 2024. When Biden was inaugurated in January at age 78, he was the oldest person yet to become U.S. president.
