Democrats call for Pence to invoke 25th Amendment and eject Trump from office [Video]

  • Lawmakers from the Democratic party is urging Vice President Pence to cite the 25th Amendment and help to remove Trump from office.
  • The legislator’s call was following the violence that erupted at the Capitol, which was allegedly promoted by President Trump.
  • Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives last year, but he was acquitted by the Republican-led Senate.

On Wednesday, Lawmakers from the Democratic party urged Vice President Pence to utilize the 25th Amendment and oust Trump from office, blaming the president for provoking the protesters that aggressively burst through the Capitol building.

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., tweeted that Pence should decide to take action since Trump is out of touch with reality.

In her tweet, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., said that Trump should be impeached right away by the Lower House, and detached from the post by the United States Senate once Congress resumes, noting that the actions of the president are risky & intolerable.

Meanwhile, Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., wrote that the incident was caused by the president, urging that Trump should be impeached and convicted the following day.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., echoed the same sentiment, posting on Twitter that she will be utilizing the articles on impeachment, adding that the Republic must be preserved, and the Lawmakers should live up to their oaths.

Right after the authorities secured the Capitol, progressive Lawmaker  Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tweeted “Impeach.”

In her statement, Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-Va., also called for the impeachment of Trump, calling the demonstrators local terrorists. She added that Trump has been inciting these activities by these so-called terrorists even during the campaign, and the Cabinet must ask him to step out right away, or the House proceeds with the impeachment.

The 25th Amendment says:

“Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

The president was impeached by the House of Representatives with charges of abuse of power earlier last year, but he was cleared by the Republican-dominated Senate.

On Wednesday, the National Association of Manufacturers published a statement backing up the proposal, saying that  Vice President Pence, who has to evacuate the Capitol, should contemplate cooperating with the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and help preserve democracy.

The statement also wrote that what’s happening right now is not the image of America that companies have faith in and strived for to defend. The organization also noted that millions of industrial laborers are working across the nation amidst the pandemic which already killed hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S.
