Highland Park shooting: Suspect’s father ‘no regret’ for helping son buy guns [Video]

The father of the Highland Park shooting suspect told ABC News that he is not culpable in the Fourth of July attack, in spite of helping his son obtain guns in 2019.
“I had no — not an inkling, warning — that this was going to happen,” Robert “Bobby” Crimo Jr. told the news network. “I am just shocked.”
Robert “Bobby” Crimo III, confessed to opening fire from a rooftop at the Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Illinois. He has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder and is being detained without bail. The 21-year-old also said he drove to Madison, Wisconsin, where he considered carrying out a second attack, police said.
In his first public interview, Crimo Jr said that he doesn’t regret sponsoring his son’s Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card in December 2019. This enabled the then-19-year-old Crimo to purchase firearms in 2020.
“I filled out the consent form to allow my son to go through the process that the Illinois State Police have in place for an individual to obtain a FOID card,” Crimo explained. “They do background checks… And either you’re approved or denied, and he was approved.”
According to the Illinois State Police, they will open a criminal investigation to review the father’s culpability because he sponsored his son’s application for a FOID card.
“Do I regret that? No, not three years ago — signing a consent form to go through the process … that’s all it was,” said Crimo Jr. “Had I purchased guns throughout the years and given them to him in my name, that’s a different story. But he went through that whole process himself.”
Crimo Jr and his wife have hired high-profile attorney Steve Greenberg, whose previous clients included celebrities like R Kelly.
Crimo Jr, a onetime local mayoral candidate, noted that his son had both purchased and registered the weapons on his own with his own funds.
Warning signs about Crimo III were clearly missed as Highland Park officers were called to his family home twice in 2019.
The first incident was in April 2019 when someone contacted Highland Park police after Crimo III had threatened to commit suicide. The second time was in September 2019 after the younger Crimo threatened to “kill everyone” at the house.
Officers later determined that he was a “clear and present danger” and removed 16 knives, a dagger and a Samurai-style sword from the home, according to the Illinois State Police.
When Crimo Jr was asked by ABC about those two instances, he claimed that those run-ins with the police had been “taken out of context.”
“Making threats to the family … I think [that was] taken out of context,”Crimo Jr responded. “It’s like just a child’s outburst, whatever he was upset about, and I think his sister called the police — I wasn’t living there.”
Crimo III was not arrested at the time because there was no probable cause for officers to make an arrest.

The father had to have learned between the time of april until December of 2019 that his son threatened suicide. The father also had to be fully aware of his son’s mental capacity, that of being blank behind his eyes. So if the father slides through this ordeal without any sort of reprimand, then it should be noted by these stupid liberals that the incident is a prime example of why these insane shootings occur. The theater shooting in Colorado was a similar scenario that parents were fully aware of their sons insanity and they just turned the devil loose on the public. There should be a law that requires a parent or parents to institutionalize a child that shows signs of insanity. Then, the justice system would have someone to hold responsible for these shootings besides an insane assailant. These monsters being bred in this country need to be contained and controlled for life if necessary. Whoever releases them on society should be held liable. It’s not a gun that did it! It’s the monster that committed the crime, and the parents that turned it loose if they knew their little monster had mental issues.

Well said, and I agree 100% Bet a jury will have a different take on the father’s culpability, not just for signing the gun card but also for not getting his son the psychiatric care he showed that he needed so badly. That turned out even worse than nontreatment of a medical condition.

Well robert bobby no need to worry the wonderful saviour’s of or country will say that the dirty doggone weapon just jumped up and killed those people and it wasn’t your sons fault.WHY,JUST WHY are there so many more of these murders happening since the democRATS have taken our country over.I know why,but I think that I have some common sense,which is rare because of so many liberals that are spawning in places that I will not mention.

Sounds like to me this family and especially Dad and Son were have some serious issues. The Dad really shows no remorse for what his son did and all about no fault! I hope they throw the book at his family for not responding to obvious red flags or signs of mental issues.

In the early 1990’s the last state mental institution was shutdown. And where do you think those hundreds of thousands people went. Well they were all set free into society to live,work and breed. The left set them free knowing full well they increase their voting base and carry out these acts. I guess i never heard it reported in the news if Robert Crimo Jr was a democrat of republican? Maybe there was a reason for that tidbit of info being left out. Im sure if he had voted for Trump, he was a trump supporter would have been plastered all over the front pages and CNN would have run it 24/7/365.
