Mexico boycotts Biden’s Summit of the Americas

- The boycott comes after the U.S. refused to invite leaders of Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the summit.
- “There cannot be a summit if all countries are not invited,” López Obrador said.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is boycotting President Joe Biden’s Summit of the Americas after he announced on Monday that he would not attend the event. The summit, which kicks off Wednesday in Los Angeles, is a high-profile event where leaders from North, Central and South America convene.
The summit aims to discuss a wide range of policy issues, including the economy, record levels of migration to the USA, and the concerning effects of climate change. However, the agenda is overshadowed by López Obrador’s boycott and threats that another leader might do the same.
The reason for the boycott is that the White House refused to invite leaders from Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua to the summit because of their autocratic governments.
“There cannot be a summit if all countries are not invited,” López Obrador said at a news conference Monday.
The Mexican president, however, will send the country’s foreign affairs secretary, Marcelo Ebrard.
Though the Biden administration is attempting to repair relations with some Latin American countries, including Mexico, “The president’s principal position is that we do not believe that dictators should be invited,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday.
The triennial gathering was last attended by former President Barack Obama in 2015 in Panama City, Panama. In 2018, then-President Donald Trump sent then-Vice President Mike Pence in his place at the summit held in Lima, Peru.
Vice President Kamala Harris will also attend the event.
Harris has pooled $3.2 billion in corporate pledges aimed at addressing some of the economic factors driving migration from Central America, Reuters reported.
Several presidents in Latin America also threatened to boycott the summit. Though López Obrador will not be in attendance, he said that he will meet with Biden in July.
Honduras’ newly-elected President Xiomara Castro hinted she would skip the gathering because the guest list did not include Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. She indicated in a Twitter post that Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina will represent Honduras at the summit.
Last month, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel tweeted that he would skip the gathering even if Cuba was invited.
Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who initially threatened to boycott the event, confirmed that he will attend the summit.
Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua were not invited because they have not upheld democratic principles and should not be included in the summit discussions, according to Biden administration officials.
Cynthia Arnson, a distinguished fellow of the Latin American Program at the Wilson Center, said that inviting the three countries would have sparked an “uproar” in Congress, as well as among Americans of Cuban, Venezuelan or Nicaraguan descent.
“There would have been demonstrations in the streets because those three regimes are engaged in really deplorable practices,” Arnson said, pointing to human rights abuses and anti-democratic policies.

For way to many year’s now America has been run by the Rich and Powerful people that have been in office many of them in a mental decline trying to run the American Government at 60, 70 , 80 even in some case’s in there 90s they have no new Ideas about What We The People want or need in the 21 century. America needs Term Limits for all Government Officers Two Terms and your out, There should be no such thing as a career Politician, there are so many Bright Minded people in America with new idea’s and new prospectives that don’t get a chance to better the country just because they aren’t Rich or from a famous family And because they can’t buy there way into office we all loose out Instead only the Rich and Powerful people buying there way into and staying in office with only one goal to make them selfs more money and Power, It’s time to change this we all no that In politics money CORRUPTS. It’s time for bright New younger people and minds new Idea’s these are good thing’s. And good for our Country Let’s get the Crooked money out of Politics and let younger people have a shot at making America a better place for all.

Biden says we shouldn’t invite dictators, so that means Biden isn’t going to show up either?
Biden spews the lie that Republicans only want to raise taxes, like that threat is going to deter anyone from voting against him all the while he is feverishly trying to tax us all into total government dependency!
What really corks me, is that Biden himself thinks he’s doing a great job! Which tells me his handlers are treating him like a mushroom…

Reagan had few problems getting America back on track, and Trump had practically BOTH party’s against him and look what he accompished in just 100 days. Democrats are the real “evil” in America for the last 150 years! Who should really care if any representative of Mexico shows up at political theater in Los Angeles. The worst threats this country faces, other than the by Biden administration comes from Mexico. More than 100,000 overdose death a year from drugs coming from Mexico. Not minimizing the threat but how many Americans were killed by Russians or China? Well China can be blamed for fentanyl, Mexico is not doing anything to solve that problem or other drug problems. Don’t know if DEA still works in Mexico but high level Mexican officials have been implicated in international drug trafficking. Mexican officials were not much help when U.S. law enforcement, legally working in Mexico were kidnapped, tortured and murdered in Mexico. Right now the U.S. is facing an invasion by foreign nationals coming from and through Mexico. Is it over 1,000,000 so far this year. Now Biden doesn’t want to stop the invasion but our neighbor to the south is doing nothing. International law says if you want asylum you request it at the first country you cross into. Mexico is not stopping anyone and appears to be helping them to move north. This invasion is a National security threat involving health and safety. Massive unemployment. Crime and violence from criminal gang members entering our country. How about the international terrorists entering our country. How about the illegal aliens working illegally and sending their untaxed earnings back to Mexico to support the failed Mexican economy. Why have we offshored our industry to Mexico, putting more Americans out of work. I could see many good reasons to just shut the border to Mexico to both humans and merchandise. Maybe our farmers would be better off not having to compete with cheap or slave labor on Mexican farms. So called pro union Joe Biden allows U.S. automakers to build cars and parts in Mexico for sale in the U.S. where did those good Union jobs go Joe? The American taxpayers financially support the existence of Mexico. We should not take any crap nor insults from their politicians!
