WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was caught red-handed in a San Francisco salon getting an indoor hair appointment when salons in the city are only allowed to offer services outdoors at the moment due to coronavirus safety rules.
  • The speaker’s representative defended her saying the salon had informed her that it can accommodate one customer at a time.
  • In June, Pelosi called President Trump “cowardly” for not wearing a mask.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi violated San Francisco’s coronavirus safety rules by getting her hair done inside a closed city salon on Monday, Fox News reported.

Fox News obtained security camera footage showing the speaker in San Francisco’s eSalon wearing a black smock with her wet hair slicked back and no face mask.

The city’s hair salons were closed until Tuesday and by then, only outdoor services are allowed. Also, clients are required to wear face masks.

Erica Kious, the owner of eSalon, told Fox News that Pelosi’s assistant had set up the appointment with an independent stylist who rents chairs in the salon.

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” Klous said.

“I’ll be there at 2:45 tomorrow. Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair,” the stylist wrote in a text message to Kious published by Fox.

Kious replied: “Pelosi?”

“I was like, are you kidding me right now?,” she told the outlet.

Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Pelosi, said the Democratic congresswoman had thought she was following the rules.

“The Speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements. This business offered for the Speaker to come in on Monday and told her they were allowed by the city to have one customer at a time in the business. The Speaker complied with the rules as presented to her by this establishment,” Hammill said.

Republicans immediately pounced on Pelosi following the report, calling the speaker a hypocrite.

Pelosi repeatedly criticized her Republican colleagues for failing to follow coronavirus safety protocols. She also slammed President Donald Trump for not wearing a face mask and called him “cowardly.”

“And not wearing a mask himself as an example to the country? How cowardly is that?” she said in June. “It’s not about protecting yourself, it’s about protecting others.”

Trump retweeted the Fox News report to his millions of followers.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Michael McAdams said “Nancy Pelosi is all too happy to blow off suffering Americans to get a $85 blow-out.”
