WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • A rally held in support of Trump turned violent, with at least four people seriously injured and others treated for minor harm.
  • The two groups in conflict are the Trump-supporting Proud Boys and some factions of the Black Lives Matter assembly.
  • While initial probing did not show what group initiated the stabbing, 23 individuals were arrested for various violent charges.

A Saturday night demonstration in downtown Washington D.C, held in support of President Donald Trump regarding his reelection loss, resulted in no less than four people stabbed amidst a clash against Black Lives Matter advocates.

Meanwhile, in Olympia, Washington, NBC News reported that an individual was shot during a comparable violent situation between Trump supporters and pandemic measures complaints and Black Lives Matter protesters. A suspect in the incident was now in police custody.

Doug Buchanan, D.C Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department spokesman, told NBC that all the assault victims in the capitol are taken to the hospitals to treat life-threatening injuries.

CNN reported that another two protesters were slightly injured, while police officers were treated for minor injuries, The Washington Post stated.

The Post said the violence transpired amidst a confrontation between the Proud Boys, a white nationalist group, and counterrally members. The victims were reportedly attacked adjacent to Harry’s Bar, said to be a meeting spot for the Proud Boys.

Initial information did not indicate which group started the attack and accountable for the wounding.

As soon as the protest started in the afternoon, the situation immediately escalated and led to kicking, punching, and brawling clashes.

Peter Newsham, Police Chief, told the Post that police forces were deployed to prevent conflict between the two groups. However, some smaller parties had split off from the main activity and intended to inflict harm.

Overall, there are 23 people arrested. Ten were booked for minor assault, six were charged for attack on law enforcers, four for violent acts, two for police line crossing, and one for possession of a Taser, an illegal weapon, as reported by CNN.

Trump expressed support for the protesters through Twitter, saying that there are thousands of people gathered in Washington D.C. calling for Stop the Steal, adding that he wishes to see the crowd.

Trump then made three passing appearances to the crowd in Marine One to encourage them.

Following the failure to challenge the election results in the Supreme Court, the president tweeted on late Friday that his supporters should continue the fight.

In September, though, during a presidential debate, Trump advised the Proud Boys while on T.V broadcast to fall back and stand ground.
