WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Rep. Madison Cawthorn was caught on Tuesday carrying a loaded handgun at an airport in North Carolina.
  • He was cited on a misdemeanor criminal charge of possessing a dangerous weapon on city property.
  • This is the second time that Cawthorn was caught at an airport for carrying a deadly weapon.

Rep. Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina was cited for “possession of a dangerous weapon on city property” after being caught with a loaded gun inside Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department confirmed that the 9-millimeter handgun belonged to Cawthorn. The GOP congressman was cooperative with officers, law enforcement said.

“Mr. Cawthorn was released, and the CMPD took possession of the firearm, which is normal procedure,” the CMPD wrote in a series of tweets. It was “standard procedure” for its Airport Division to cite someone in lieu of arrest unless there are aggravating circumstances.

The incident is the latest in a string of controversies Cawthorn has found himself in the recent weeks. In February 2021, he was also cited, though not charged, for attempting to carry a gun onto a plane in his carry-on luggage at Asheville Regional Airport.

Cawthorn was publicly criticized by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy last month after he suggested on a podcast that he’d seen Washington Republicans use cocaine and been asked to join in an orgy.

“I just told him he’s lost my trust, he’s gonna have to earn it back,” McCarthy said. The House Minority leader also admonished Cawthorn for calling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a “thug.”

Politico published photos of Cawthorn on Friday wearing women’s lingerie. The congressman said those were “goofy vacation photos.”

Republican Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina, who had enough of Cawthorn’s antics, has endorsed one of Cawthorn’s GOP challengers.

Any one else would still be lock up behind bars. This is his second time. Must be a very slow to know the gun laws.

He should know better, especially after the first time. These politicians think they are above the law. Then, again, he probably raised a stink and the watch commander didn’t want the backlash. Time for these elites to be held to the SAME standards as the rest of us.

Madison Cawthorn is one of my heroes in the DC Swamp. It seems the reigning
ReFLUBicans like McCarthy and Tillis are
out to get Cawthorn for speaking the truth about some low life ReFLUBicans who
want sex orgies and drugs. Pray that Cawthorn doesn’t get swept away by those who feel threatened by his truth telling.

Cawthorn is a complete moron. Cawthorn knows what the law is. Being a Congressperson or claiming ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Np guns in your baggage. They have to be in a TSA approved lock-box and placed in the cargo hold, no exceptions. Enjoy it while you can, i don’t see Cawthorn in Congress next time around.

Perhaps that is why he is being targeted? But doing this was STUPID and he may be his own worst enemy.

There is NO EXCUSE for having a loaded gun at an airport. What the heck is wrong with Cawthorne and for a second time? IS he getting dementia from JOE? All GOOD gunners know the laws and follow them. Apparently NOT this guy. Perhaps he doesn’t need to own a gun or a judge might require him to take a good class in gun laws and how to travel with guns? ie. unloaded, in a locked case, ammo separate in original box and notify the airlines that he has a gun. DUH – its not hard.
