  • Smith expressed support for LGBTQ rights but opposes transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
  • His stance aligns with a majority of Americans, as shown by a segment revealing 79% agreement with a similar position.

Stephen A. Smith, known for his outspoken presence on ESPN, is contemplating a foray into politics. This consideration comes on the heels of a poll that indicated he is only one percentage point behind former Democrat Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz among Democratic voters. The poll has sparked widespread media speculation about Smith’s potential political aspirations.

In a recent interview, Smith addressed the possibility of running for office and shared his views on various issues. While he identifies as a centrist, Smith took a clear stance on the contentious topic of transgender athletes participating in women’s sports.

“LGBTQ rights and all that stuff, I’m in full support of that,” Smith stated. However, he drew a line when it comes to transgender athletes competing in female sports, describing it as “a different animal.”

He elaborated, “That’s not just about LGBTQ rights. That’s about prying on the rights of females out there everywhere who were born female, and they’re at a decided disadvantage.”

Smith’s position on this issue resonates with a significant portion of the American public. A recent segment highlighted that 79% of Americans agree with President Trump’s stance on transgender athletes and his executive order to remove them from women’s sports under Title IX.

While Smith’s views on transgender athletes may bolster his appeal among everyday Americans, they could pose challenges if he decides to run as a Democrat. The party’s platform typically leans towards more inclusive policies regarding transgender rights.

Why do transgender have different rights than non-transgender? Don’t all Americans have the same rights regardless of race, creed or gender. Why should transgender Americans have a different set of rights?
