  • A video shared on Reddit showed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz arguing with staff and an officer at a Montana airport.
  • Airport officials confirmed that Cruz was frustrated after missing his flight’s check-in window.
  • The senator was rebooked and managed to catch a flight later that evening.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) was reportedly caught on video arguing with staff at an airport in Bozeman, Montana. A 23-second clip was shared on Reddit on Sunday, which showed a law enforcement officer appearing to calm him down.

In the short clip, the senator can be seen talking to two United Airlines representatives at the check-in desk. Moments later, an officer arrives as the visibly frustrated Cruz gestures with his phone.

A report from the Daily Mail revealed that Cruz expressed his frustration for missing his flight’s check-in window.

Scott Humphrey, Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport’s deputy director, told the outlet, “One of our Public Safety Officers (PSO) was in the ticket lobby and was asked to assist with a frustrated passenger at the United ticket counter (which is not unusual).”

“The passenger had missed the check-in window for his flight and re-booking options were limited out of Bozeman due to Spring Break,” he explained.

According to Humphrey, the staff explained other travel options, after which “he was rebooked and departed Bozeman later that evening.”

“Our PSO didn’t realize he was dealing with Senator Cruz until after the fact,” he added.

The Texas senator managed to make it to Washington, DC, in time on Monday to attend Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

Cruz previously had a high-profile incident in an airport in February 2021 when he received backlash for taking a vacation with his family to Cancún, Mexico, while his state reeled from a devastating winter storm.

When photos of him at the Cancún airport circulated, he explained that their daughters “asked to take a trip with friends.” He said that he wanted “to be a good dad” so he accompanied them that night, adding that he would be flying back in the afternoon.
