WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • During his visit at the US southern border Wednesday, former President Donald Trump said that the Biden administration did not inherit the border crisis.
  • Trump defended his policies and highlighted his accomplishments.
  • President Joe Biden previously noted that his government encountered “one-god awful mess at the border.”

Former President Donald Trump straightly argued that the Biden administration did not “inherit” the ongoing border crisis during today’s visit at the US-Mexico border.

In an address, Trump defended his administration’s policy on border security, as he highlighted his administration’s fight against drugs and human trafficking. The former president also touted the success of the “remain in Mexico” policy, as well as addressing the “catch and release” and “chain migration” issues.

Statistically, Trump’s policies had mitigated the migrant crossings in the southern border. The US Border Patrol noticed a decline of family encounters from 56 percent, down to 43 and 50 percent, based on the 2018 fiscal year up to 2020.

During the fiscal year 2020, cases in the El Paso sector dipped. At Zone 1 of the Rio Grande Valley Sector, apprehensions and drug seizures also declined since the wall system’s implementation.

With regard to drug trafficking, Trump’s performance was diverse. From the same three year fiscal year, drug seizures of cocaine, heroin and marijuana in the southern border steadily decreased from 31 percent, to 23 percent and then 5 percent. On the other hand, seizures of fentanyl and meth climbed to 108 percent and 139 percent in the last two fiscal years.

Given what Trump had all done, Biden has now flipped over those actions and has been attempting to attribute the growing crisis to his predecessor.

Currently, the US Customs and Border Protection has observed a 140 percent growth of unaccompanied minor encounters since fiscal year 2020. Criminal syndicates have improvised their operations amid the COVID-19 restrictions. Specifically, more illegal drugs have been confiscated as of this year’s fiscal year than 2020’s total fiscal year.

Last April, President Joe Biden argued that the government has “one-god awful mess at the border,” as Vice President Kamala Harris noted last week that they “inherited a tough situation.”

The White House has seemed to use the “Blame Trump” narrative as an excuse for the unsolved fiasco happening at the border.
