In a recent discussion, Republican strategist Scott Jennings stirred controversy by bringing up China’s alleged perception of former President Joe Biden. This claim was based on information shared by Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, who had engaged in talks with Chinese officials.

During these meetings, Bessent reported that Chinese officials admitted they felt they could disregard Biden’s administration.

“They told him, ‘We ignored Biden because he was so weak and we could afford to do it,’” Jennings stated, emphasizing the contrast between Biden and what he described as the strong leadership of President Donald Trump.

Jennings’ comments came in response to Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton’s suggestion that Trump was overly friendly with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Jennings countered by highlighting the recent progress made in trade negotiations under Trump, stating, “Now they’ve been drug to the table by a strong American president.”

The discussion took a heated turn when former Biden campaign aide Ashley Allison questioned the relevance of mentioning Biden in the context of current events.

“You know you’re losing when you have to bring Joe Biden into the narrative,” Allison remarked.

Jennings was quick to defend his position, clarifying, “I didn’t say it. The Chinese did. They are losing. I agree with you. The Chinese are losing. They brought it up.”

Bessent’s revelations were made during an appearance on a financial news program, where he discussed the temporary easing of tensions between the U.S. and China.

He noted that the Chinese delegation admitted to ignoring their obligations once Biden assumed office, a move they felt they could make without consequence.

The backdrop to this discussion is Trump’s recent announcement of increased tariffs on Chinese exports, coupled with a 90-day pause on reciprocal tariffs.

This move aligns with his campaign promise to bolster American manufacturing, a key issue in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Allison, however, remained critical of Jennings’ approach, arguing, “The reality is, when you have to make your point and you refer it back to Joe Biden, then what is happening is not working in your favor.”

Jennings, standing firm, interjected, “It’s not me.”
