Body camera footage released by the sheriff’s office shows the moment Deputy Ligon arrived at the smoke-filled scene. Neighbors informed the officer that they were unable to enter the residence to check for occupants.

“I’ve been banging on the door. I can’t get whoever’s in that house out,” another neighbor said.

The deputy, who serves as a School Resource Officer, immediately forced entry to ensure no citizens were left behind in the burning structure. After confirming the house was empty, he transitioned to the backyard to find the pet.

Arapahoe County is currently under a Stage 2 Burn Ban which prohibits outdoor wood-burning and charcoal fires. Fire officials warn that current dry and windy conditions have accelerated the wildfire season beyond standard patterns.

Local authorities confirmed that while two homes were lost in the Centennial blaze, no person sustained injuries thanks to the rapid response. Other regional fires, including one near Fort Collins, have recently forced evacuations as drought conditions persist.
