  • EU’s top diplomat warns that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not genuinely interested in peace with Ukraine.
  • President Trump claims to have engaged in productive talks with Russia, but details remain vague.
  • European leaders stress the importance of the U.S. maintaining strong ties with NATO allies to counter Russian aggression.

European leaders are expressing concern over President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a peace deal between Ukraine and Russia. The European Union’s chief diplomat has issued a stark warning, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t really want peace.”

While President Trump mentioned having “very good talks with Russia,” he did not elaborate on any concrete progress towards ending the conflict in Ukraine. This lack of clarity has left some NATO allies and long-standing U.S. partners uneasy about the implications of Trump’s approach to Moscow.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, emphasized the necessity of dialogue between the U.S. and Russia, stating, “The U.S. is talking to Russia, and you have to establish contacts.” However, she cautioned, “Right now, Russia doesn’t really want peace.”

Kallas further explained that Russia appears to be playing a waiting game, believing that time is on their side. “If we increase the pressure, economic pressure on them, but also political pressure, if we support Ukraine so that they would be stronger on the battlefield, then they would also be stronger behind the negotiation table,” she added.

As Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepare to finalize a minerals deal, there is hope that it could eventually lead to ceasefire discussions. Trump has been vocal about his ability to engage Russia in talks and has pushed for NATO countries to share more of the economic burden in supporting Ukraine.

The shift in U.S. policy towards Ukraine from the Trump to the Biden administration has caused some European nations to reassess their positions. While the U.K. seeks to reinforce shared values with the U.S., other countries, like Germany, are reconsidering their alignment with Washington.

Kallas reminded the Trump administration of the enduring importance of the NATO alliance, highlighting that Article 5 has only been invoked once, following the 9/11 attacks. “In terms of international security, we need to work together with the Americans, who have been our allies for a very, very long time,” she stated.

Reflecting on Estonia’s contributions to the War on Terror, Kallas remarked, “We, as Estonia, lost as many soldiers per capita as the United States. We were there for you when you asked for help.” She expressed disappointment over any perceived disregard for European allies, insisting, “It should work both ways.”

Kallas has consistently urged the U.S. and Europe to remain united against Putin’s attempts to divide them over Ukraine. She argues that the U.S. must continue to be a reliable partner in countering Russian threats, as Putin is not the only danger to the alliance.

During her visit to Washington, Kallas met with lawmakers to discuss key issues affecting the EU-U.S. security partnership. Although her meeting with the Secretary of State was canceled, she remains optimistic about ongoing communication. “There’s a lot to discuss, from Ukraine to the Middle East, also what is happening in Africa, Iran – where we have definitely mutual interest to cooperate – and not to mention China as well,” Kallas noted.

The EU (the socialist ruling entity of Europe) doesn’t want peace between Russia & Ukraine. They want it to expand into a NATO war against Russia where the U.S. has to be involved on NATO’S side. They are fully pushing for WWIII. All the the EU countries together can not defeat Russia but NATO could but only if the U.S. takes the lead. Almost sounds like the original idea regarding the EU doesn’t it ???

You are delusional. Not sure if you even know what the EU original idea was. However nobody wishes nuclear war. Give your head a shake. NATO must not admit Ukraine. Frankly the Balkans have been an issue for over 150 years. BTW the far right are starting to creep back into Europe.

Maxx is saying the same thing you’re saying no need to be insulting. This is an EU problem from the beginning let them handle it we should not let them pull us into a war we have no interest in because of NATO. We need to drop out of NATO now actually decades ago we are constantly being taken advantage of. Zelensky put himself in a position that Trump has to make an example of him to the rest of the world! The EU has no cards to play against us either.

You have to hand it to THE MAN. When Trump asked Europe to provide their share of money to security defence, he wasn’t kidding What a hullabaloo followed. Now they’ve found their common sense. The meeting in the oval Office was not pleasant to watch. It was two on one, with a press corp asking uncomfortable questions of zelinsky’s clothing. Well at least Trump is not gambling with USA tax dollars. That’s what they voted for. By

Interesting that that the EU has given altogether 50% less than the Americans have. They also have a promise by Ukraine to pay it back we do not. Zelensky doesn’t understand that this war is a losing battle. Unfortunately, for peace everyone’s going have to give up something. Trump attempted to make a deal that would place us on the border with Russia, while entering a business deal of mining the minerals that we need and still paying for them by the way . Russia would not of attacked America. Zelinski wants to continue with the bloodshed and he doesn’t have the soldiers to do it. So guess the EU can step up. Not one American soldiers blood should be dropped in this ongoing battle. Biden should’ve never entertained the thought that Ukraine could become part of NATO. It’s like having Canada entertain Russia at our border. Too many people are dying and it’s time for peace. JMO.
