Jan. 6 panel to make criminal referrals to DOJ [Video]

- Rep. Bennie Thompson, the chairman of the Jan. 6 House panel, said that they have decided to make criminal referrals to the Justice Department.
- Thompson did not provide other details on who might be referred and on what charges.
- The committee is expected to wrap up its investigation and present its findings this month, before it is likely dissolved when the Republican-led Congress takes over in January.
The House panel investigating the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, has decided to make criminal referrals to the Department of Justice.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), the committee chairman, responded in the affirmative when reporters asked him about the matter. He did not give further details on who might be referred on what charges.
Referrals would not necessarily lead to a criminal investigation. It is still up to the Justice Department, which has its own investigation into the Capitol riot, to file charges.
Thousands of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021. Many of them claimed that they were spurred on by Trump’s speech, which claimed that President Joe Biden only won the election through fraudulent means.
The riot led to five deaths, including a police officer, during or shortly after the incident. Over 140 police officers were also injured. Congressional members and staff, as well as then-Vice President Mike Pence, had to hide or run for their lives amid the chaos. Millions of dollars in damage were reported.
The investigation into the incident and the events leading up to it has been ongoing for over a year. A subcommittee of the Democratic-led House panel also looked into issuing criminal referrals for Trump and his associates.
The House Select Committee is expected to wrap up and relay its final report this month before it is likely dissolved when the Republican-led Congress takes over in January.

you are right. This whole committee is a one party joke and a big waste of time and tax payers money. After what has just been reported about the Justice Department, I won’t trust the DOJ one damn bit. The DOJ is as corrupt as the rest of our government. The DOJ won’t investigate Joe or Hunter Biden, or Hillary Clinton, but they only have eyes for Donald Trump who is more innocent than all these other people combined with evidence to it.
The DOJ can go S in their hat.

Are you kidding me, you are saying Donald Trump is innocent???? Trying to overthrow the US government is an act of treason. No other US president has ever removed classified documents as Trump. One can take it to the bank that this Kangaroo Court is going to refer to the DOJ, criminal charges on Trump. The swamp should be filing criminal charges on Pelosi. This is all being done to CYA on the liberal commie Democrats. It was Pelosi that refused Trump’s offer of the NG. Had the NG been in place, the Capitol fiasco could have been avoided. It was Pelosi’s intent to have the protesters come in and destroy the Capitol, this way, the Liberal commie Democrats along with the RINO’s could blame the Capitol fiasco entirely on Trump. If the weaponized DOJ seeks criminal charges against Trump, the trial is held in DC, even with the best Lawyer in America, the DOJ will be guaranteed a conviction in DC. In DC Democrats walk, Republicans go to jail. The juries are biased. Case in point, the Durham investigation. Corrupt Hillary will never go to jail, a DC jury will never convict her. This starts a bad precedence. By the same token, Lying Corrupt Quid Pro KING Joe should see the inside of a jail cell, for using his political position for monetary gain. Every answer on here is correct. All of this was set up by Nancy Pelosi. On top of that one wonders why she needed to do that. Pretty simple was the fact that she was giving her Husband insider information which is against the Law and she knew that eventually she was going to get caught at what she has done. No wonder the Pelosi’s are worth Millions of Dollars, she was able to cash in on the Insider Information. Nancy has created a real problem in Washington by using this so called Insurrection as a decoy for her doing Unlawful things and making Billions at it. Makes you wonder if she didn’t pay this Homeless person to cause a Break In so to speak. Everything is backfiring and Nancy has to get out.
