Lindsey Graham says he’ll follow Texas Dems’ lead, ‘leave town’ to stop reconciliation bill

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Fox News Sunday that President Joe Biden’s $3.5 trillion reconciliation package was “not infrastructure.”
  • He said that he would copy the move of Texas Democratic lawmakers who fled from their state to break a quorum of a GOP-backed election bill once the package is brought to the Senate.
  • Graham’s comments came days following Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s confirmation of a $3.5 trillion budget allocation for the reconciliation package.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) criticized the Democratic spending plan, saying that he would follow the move made by Texas House Democrats who fled away from their state in a bid to halt the GOP-backed election bill.

“Hell yeah, I would leave,” Graham told host Maria Bartiromo. “I would use everything lawfully in my toolbox to prevent rampant inflation.”

The Republican senator said that he would support the approximately $950 billion infrastructure plan for building roads, bridges and ports, but argued that President Joe Biden’s “$3.5 trillion reconciliation package designed to pass without a single Republican vote” was “not infrastructure.”

Graham stressed that the reconciliation package was a “liberal wish list,” which contains “all kinds of new social programs unrelated to infrastructure.” He argued that such passage would enable the inflation to reach “through the roof.”

The South Carolina lawmaker said that it would warrant a quorum for the plan to be passed in the Senate, adding that he would also “leave” if Democrats pass the reconciliation budget resolution together with the $3.5 trillion proposal when it reaches the Senate.

“To my Republican colleagues, we may learn something from our Democratic friends in Texas when it comes to avoiding a $3.5 trillion tax and spend package: Leave town,” he said.

Dozens of Texas Democratic lawmakers fled to Washington DC last week in a bid to break a quorum that would halt the GOP-backed election bills from getting enacted. Democrats argued that such a proposal would restrict voting rights.

Graham also noted that the Democratic package included amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, which for him would be unacceptable.

If Democrats would “put legalizing illegal immigrants in that bill, you’re going to have a complete run on the border,” he said, adding that “it would lead to an invasion of illegal immigrants if we put amnesty in the $3.5 trillion bill so I’d do anything I could to stop that.”

Graham’s remarks came days following Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-N.Y.) announcement that the Budget Committee made a consensus of allocating a $3.5 trillion spending package as part of the president’s infrastructure plan. Accordingly, the package would include a budget reconciliation plan that would no longer warrant Republicans’ support and negates a filibuster act.

Just take a moment to count up all the wrongs that have been committed by the Biden administration. And all done due to his illegally being elected to office. This means war in most countries, so what are we going to do about it?

It is very clear to me that we do not need Trump anywhere close to the President of the United States. We need a two party system that will work for all. Not one party is correct all the time, however I do believe this Country needs to turn to God.

Unlike Gerald Woods, this is why we need more folks like Donald Trump in the White House. Biden and the socialist democrats are going to totally destroy our great nation. We must stand up and fight figuratively and literally to save our great nation. I am ready for whatever it takes.

We need to bring back trump or business mans who know how to make changes,to every state in our country of the USA.
We need to retire everyone who has been there longer then 50 years. American people should have a person who they can talk with about their problems that aren’t going well. We need our country back the way it was.

The first mistake was Biden being put in the running, he is I’ll with dementia. We all realize he is a patsy for Obama, he wanted to running his third term, couldn’t get elected. To me how can this be legal, Joe is I’ll he is not with it often. Seems like elder abuse, to put him out for some ignorant people to make fun of, pathetic.

I agree with the points from all the above comments. The Biden Admin has done more to hurt this country in 7 mo than all the politicians in the last 3 decades. Yes, we need a 2 party system that works for all and definitely, we need a return to GOD. We need Trump or another businessman to run the country, running a Country is like running a multi-national corporation, not everyone agrees with the CEO but they follow him if he makes the company stronger. Yes I agree we need term limits and everyone in there now that are over the term limit should go. They won’t vote for that though, if 8 yrs. is good enough for a President then NO ONE ELSE should be allowed over that either. Some may not like my comments but that’s what I believe and can legally (for now) say because of my Freedom of Speech.
