Elise Jordan, a political analyst for MSNBC, made a bold statement on Tuesday, suggesting that the rhetoric of former President Donald Trump was so unhinged that it should warrant a “straitjacket.”
Jordan expressed this sentiment during her appearance on the Morning Joe show.
“You would hope that insane rantings that sound like someone should not be in power; rather, they should be in a straitjacket and given some kind of injection. You would hope that that would not be just dismissed by a lot of voters,” Jordan told the Morning Joe crew.
Her comments were in response to host Joe Scarborough’s argument. Scarborough had alluded to a theory that when the conversation revolves around President Joe Biden, Republicans come out on top. However, when the focus shifts to Trump, Democrats gain the upper hand.
Scarborough stated, “As Donald Trump goes into this election, and he says crazier things every day, and they are getting crazier, Donald Trump’s numbers likely will go down again.”
Jordan, however, contended that Trump’s supporters are likely to disregard his comments. She expressed her concern about the strong political polarization that enables this dismissal.
“Unfortunately, as we’ve seen, there are plenty of Republican voters who are willing to look away and dismiss it just as theater, just as performance, because … the polarization is so strong,” Jordan said.
She further explained that Trump supporters are staunchly against Democrats, and their primary objective is to defeat “the other side.”
Jordan also highlighted the radicalization of the electorate in the country. “You look at how the electorate in this country has been so radicalized, where 2 out of 10 Americans see the other side as the enemy, not just political opposition, but the enemy,” she said.
Jordan concluded with a worrying thought, “I worry that Donald Trump is winning when attention is on him, no matter how insane or inane his comments are at a given moment.”

They listen to Trump because they believe he speaks to these concerns in a way that other politicians do not.
Finally, Jordan’s concern about the radicalization of the electorate reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of the current political landscape. It is not radical to want secure borders, a strong economy, or respect for traditional values. It is, however, radical to suggest that someone should be put in a straitjacket for expressing these views.

How can you have employers that never lay people off? When our largest private sector businesses can lay off thousands because that is how business tries to operate without going into debt or carrying employees who are lazy, unproductive, etc. – DUH.
