  • A shooting in downtown Sacramento, California, killed six people and injured 12 others.
  • Officials have launched an urgent search for multiple suspects.
  • Several officials, including Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, called for stricter gun control measures.

Six people died and 12 others were injured after a shooting occurred in downtown Sacramento, California on Sunday morning.

Gunshots were heard around 2 a.m. within a few blocks of several notable landmarks: the California State Capitol, Sacramento City Hall, and the Golden 1 Center, which are usual venues for concerts and sporting events.

It is unclear whether there was an ongoing event when gunfire erupted.

When officers arrived at the scene near 10th Street and K Street, they saw a large crowd, people running, and multiple gunshot victims.

Sacramento Police Chief Katherine Lester said later in the afternoon, “Officers began to give medical aid, including CPR, to the victims that they found and at the same time worked to stabilize the scene and learn what they could about the crime.” Police officers coordinated with the California Highway Patrol and the Sacramento Fire Department to save lives.

Witnesses have sent in tips and videos related to the shooting, including footage that showed an altercation before the gunfire occurred. Part of the incident was also captured by a nearby police camera.

Officers confirmed multiple shooters, for whom an urgent search has been launched. Investigators collected evidence from the scene, including a stolen handgun, and interviewed several witnesses.

Among the deceased were three men and three women. Those who were injured were rushed to local hospitals.

Lester declared, “We are shocked and heartbroken by this tragedy but we are also resolved as an agency to find those responsible and to secure justice for the victims and their families.”

Several officials called for stricter gun control measures.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, who described the shooting as “a senseless and unacceptable tragedy,” declared, “Thoughts and prayers are not enough. It is beyond time to have a sane conversation to have guns in America. We have a sickness — it’s a sickness in our country, it’s a sickness in our culture.”

The mayor said that the city would continue investing in programs addressing early intervention and violence prevention for young people.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom stated, “The scourge of gun violence continues to be a crisis in our country, and we must resolve to bring an end to this carnage.”

President Joe Biden also called on Congress to act on gun control measures. He stated, “In a single act in Sacramento, six individuals left dead and at least a dozen more injured. Families forever changed. Survivors left to heal wounds both visible and invisible.”

sure, take the gun from the innocent citizen and let the drug gang demand what they want anytime, anyplace. politicians are brain dead including this hair-grease misfit gravel mouth nudesom freak. he thinks taking the gun from WE THE PEOPLE will resolve his drug animal from roaming the street. too bad it’s in Sacrament at 2:30 am. only freaking drug gangs roam the street this late and do their killing. they get more than drugs if the drug gangs go to the Palefaceloser’s mansion in SF and this nudesom’s mansion somewhere in the classy neighborhood, enjoy their free 12 flavor ice cream in their frig anytime.

The Democrat People’s Republic of California is already a Police State. Every time there is a shooting, the first thing out of the liberal commie Democrats mouth, we need stricter gun control laws. There are enough laws on the books in California, try enforcing them. Stop putting criminals back on the street, because of the no posting of bail policies. The voters are partially to blame for this. This is what the liberal commie Democrats voted for. Stop electing politicians and stop listening to the liberal left radicals that want to defund the police.

What do U expect when criminals R released from jail and back into society, early. The cops aren.t allowed 2 do their job effectively and are hated by the politicians in charge. More gun contol is worthless if stolen guns R used and cops can.t do stop and frisk. Welcome 2 progressive California. Time 2 flee.
