In a recent video, Texas Senator Ted Cruz took a firm stand against National Public Radio (NPR), accusing the organization of bias against conservative viewpoints. Cruz’s critique comes in the wake of an executive order by President Donald Trump, which cut funding to NPR and PBS due to their perceived left-leaning bias.

Cruz emphasized the legal obligations of public media entities, citing the Communications Act’s requirement for “objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs on a controversial nature.” He argued that NPR has not adhered to these standards.

“Last Congress, I put out a detailed report how NPR took millions in earmarked donations from left-wing mega-donors for very specific coverage,” Cruz stated. He further accused NPR of producing content that directly mirrors the agendas of these donors.

The senator also criticized the Congressionally-chartered independent television service for funding documentaries like “Racist Trees” on PBS. NPR’s CEO, Katherine Maher, has been accused of denying the organization’s “serious story selection problem,” despite resignations from senior editors due to overwhelming bias.

One such resignation came from Uri Berliner, who left NPR after highlighting the network’s lack of “viewpoint diversity.” Berliner announced his departure on social media, following a suspension without pay.

“NPR continues to have a dedicated news desk for climate and for race, both of which are propped up by liberal mega-donors,” Cruz remarked. He referenced a tweet from Maher in January 2020, which he interpreted as indicative of the organization’s bias.

Cruz concluded with a call for accountability, stressing that it is “more than time” for NPR to address these issues. NPR has yet to respond to requests for comment on these allegations.
