WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • About 6,013 pounds of Crispy Chicken with Almonds entrée products have been recalled by Mountain View Packaging over mislabeling and an undeclared allergen.
  • The frozen, ready-to-eat products were distributed to Walmart stores across 28 states.
  • The recall was issued after a customer found shrimp, a common shellfish allergen that accounts for serious allergic reactions, in their product.

Walmart recalled over 6,000 pounds of chicken products sold in 28 states over mislabeling and an undeclared allergen. Mountain View Packaging LLC issued the voluntary recall after a customer reported finding shrimp in a product labeled as a Crispy Chicken with Almonds entrée.

The company recalled about 6,013 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat Crispy Chicken with Almonds entrée products, the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service reported.

Health officials noted that shrimp was “not declared on the product label” despite being a common shellfish allergen. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed shellfish as one of eight food groups that account for the most serious allergic reactions in the US.

The recalled products are 18.5 ounce packages labeled as “INNOVASIAN Crispy Chicken with Almonds ENTREE” with the lot code 22321-1, UPC code 695119120499, and a “best by” date of May 24, 2023. They were distributed to Walmart stores in 28 states. All affected stores were listed in a span of 23 pages at the retailer’s website.

There have been no adverse reactions reported in relation to the recalled products so far. Officials advise consumers who are concerned about any illnesses or injuries to consult a healthcare provider.

The notice instructs retailers to stop selling the recalled products. Consumers are to dispose of the products, or return them to the store where they were originally purchased. For a full refund or replacement, consumers can contact InnovAsian at (800) 324-5140.

About 17-23 years ago I stopped in to a Walmart that sold meat very cheaply. Pork, chicken and Beef was all the same shade of gray. I have never been back.

Other than it contains undeclared shrimp it’s ok then?
Why return it if you’re not allergic to shrimp?

There you go trying to apply common sense to the subject. The truth is, for me at least, it’s a bonus, chicken AND shrimp in one package. Bring on the tartar sauce and a nice cold IPA!
