World leaders applaud Joe Biden on his election victory

  • In a Twitter post, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was looking ahead to working with the President-elect, saying the two country’s relations are exceptional.
  • Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India said the win of Vice President-elect Harris, born from both Indian and Jamaican parents, was unprecedented.
  • In his tweet, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson commented that the U.S. is Britain’s most significant ally.

On Saturday, leaders worldwide praised U.S President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for their triumph in the recently concluded elections.

In his Twitter, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Harris for being the first person and woman of color elected as U.S vice president, calling it a “historic achievement.”

Johnson also pointed out that the U.S. is their most important ally. They would continue to work with them on mutual interests, including climate change, security, and trade.

In succeeding Twitter posts, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, also applauded the 46th President-elect Biden and Harris. He added that Harris’s triumph is groundbreaking, mentioning that the vice-president-elect is a boar of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother, which brings pride, especially to Indian-Americans.

The India PM also said that under the Biden administration’s support, the lively India-US bonds would be more substantial.

Another world leader who expressed compliments for Harris is Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo and German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her momentous accomplishment.

In her message, Merkel added that Americans had cast their votes, and she awaits with pleasure her forthcoming working relations with Biden. She also remarked that the friendship between the two countries is exceptional. 

Another known U.S ally, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, posted that their two countries have a unique and tight partnership. He added that he is enthusiastic about working with Biden and Harris in the future, specifically with matters related to peace, climate change, and economy.

Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg of NATO is also amongst leaders who congratulated Biden, calling the latter a solid supporter of the organization.

He wrote that in a world that continuously changes, U.S. leadership is as needed as ever, and he also looks forward to having close working ties with Biden and Harris, significantly fortifying the union between Europe and North America.

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, applauded Biden via Twitter that, saying they are set to strengthen collaboration with Biden’s administration and the Congress to deal with new challenges.

In the same platform, French President Emmanuel Macron also greeted Biden, inviting the President to work together in conquering today’s challenges.

Other leaders worldwide who congratulated Biden and Harris include Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian President Mark Rutte, Netherlands Prime Minister, and Simonetta Sommaruga,  President of the Swiss Confederation.
