Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, has announced that he is running for governor of New York.

He has launched his first campaign video and held a press conference hours later on Tuesday afternoon.

He stated in his first campaign ad, “Like my parents before me, New York is in my blood. I’ve been raised from New York. I know who we are, what we can be, and where we need to go.”

“It’s time to stand and honor the great heroes of New York. The greatest chapters of New York are yet to be written. And as your governor, let’s write the greatest comeback story ever. It’s time to bring back New York,” he declared.

Giuliani previously told ABC News that he was “strongly considering” a campaign and that he was meeting with Republican leaders across the state.

He declared during Tuesday’s press conference, “We can make New York, truly, the beacon of hope in the world. I look forward to going across the state, and showing New Yorkers exactly why and how I am qualified for this. But the truth is, I have a vision, and I know that I can get this done.”

Giuliani told the New York Post, “I’m a politician out of the womb. It’s in my DNA. Giuliani vs. Cuomo. Holy smokes. It’s Muhammad Ali vs. Joe Frazier. We can sell tickets at Madison Square Garden.”

While three-time incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, hasn’t officially announced his intent to seek a fourth term, Republicans Rep. Lee Zeldin and Rob Astorino are in the race.

Both Rudy and Andrew Giuliani served former President Donald Trump closely. The elder was Trump’s personal attorney while his son was Trump’s special assistant in the White House.

Andrew Giuliani said at a press conference on Tuesday that he will neither run away nor hide from his past, and said that he’s “very proud of many of the policies that we were able to accomplish.” He added that he and Trump also talked about his campaign and that the former president “has been very, very important in terms of the strategy of all this.”

Before the 2008 election, Andrew Giuliani told The New York Times that he and his father had not spoken for a long time and have been trying to reconcile.

At his recent press conference, he said that he and his father spoke about his campaign, adding that he will be “implementing the Giuliani playbook to make sure that we continue to turn around New York state.”

Rudy Giuliani is still under investigation regarding his work on Ukraine-related matters and business deals with two indicted Soviet-born associates.
