According to reports, at least one individual was killed in a shooting on Saturday evening in Portland, Oregon, after a brutal encounter between a group of pro-Trump caravan and Black Lives Matter (BLM) protesters.

In a video posted online, a person abruptly falls to the ground as people rushed to help. Gunshots were heard near an intersection where the victim dropped.

Conducting its investigation, the Portland police said that the case is being considered homicide in a venue where pro-administration and BLM demonstrators had a brawl. Authorities did not claim whether the shooting was associated with the rally.

According to an Associated Press freelance photographer, three gunshots were heard as the police medics came into the victim, appearing to be a white man, for rescue. The AP freelancer said that the victim wears a hat with the mark of Patriot Prayer ━ a right-wing group whose members have previous altercations with Portland demonstrators.

In its released statement, the Portland Police Bureau said: “Portland Police officers heard sounds of gunfire from the area of Southeast 3rd Avenue and Southwest Alder Street. They responded and located a victim with a gunshot wound to the chest. Medical responded and determined that the victim was deceased.”

Police officers already arrested some people as they notified the public to refrain from going to the area where the caravan was set to arrive.

Earlier on that day, there were already tensions between the two parties as the pro-Trump caravan was confronted by protesters when it drove around the city after their rally at the Clackamas Town Center.

Protesters tried to stop the caravan by blocking the road. Videos showed that both groups went into a physical brawl as Trump supporters fired paintball pellets and used bear spray, while the protesters threw things at them.

OregonLive reported that the shooting came when most of the caravaners were already gone. Police neither disclosed any details of the victim nor details of the shooter.

Across the city, Portland has faced over three months of continuous protests and riots which were sparked by the fatal death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis on May 25.
