WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Family members of GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger wrote a letter, denouncing him and his actions for going against former President Donald Trump.
  • The letter, written by Karen Otto, Kinzinger’s cousin, had 10 signatures from family members.
  • Kinzinger created a Political Action Committee last month, distancing himself from fellow GOPs who continue to tolerate Trump and his actions.

Fox News reported that GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger (IL.) was disowned by 11 of his family members in a hand-written letter after he became a critic of ex-president Donald Trump.

“Oh my, what a disappointment you are to us and to God! We were once so proud of your accomplishments! Instead, you go against your Christian principles and join the ‘devil’s army’ (Democrats and the fake news media),” the letter read as first reported by the New York Times.

“It is now most embarrassing to us that we are related to you. You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name,” it continued.

The letter went on to uphold Trump as a faithful Christian while criticizing Kinzinger for assaulting the former leader.

“You won’t convince us otherwise with your horrible, rude accusations of President Trump!” it said.

“It is now most embarrassing to us that we are related to you. You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name,” the letter added.

“We are thoroughly disgusted with you!! And, oh by the way, we are calling for your removal from office,” the two-page letter concluded. “President Trump has done more for the American people in four years, than you, the Rhinos, and the Democrats have done in years!”

Speaking with the Times, Kinzinger’s cousin Karen Otto revealed that she wrote the letter. It has 10 signatures from fellow relatives which were sent via certified mail to Kinzinger’s father. The letter was also disseminated to GOPs in Illinois and the congressional delegation.

During the interview, Otto said that she wanted her cousin “to be shunned.”

Last month, the Illinois congressman spearheaded a Political Action Committee (PAC) in a bid to hold off a House GOP-led team and party. Kinzinger claimed that the Republican party has erroneously become a “Trump-first party” as the “Country 1st” PAC aimed to challenge the current disposition of the party.

The move came as Kinzinger was fed up with his colleagues’ reluctance to make Trump responsible for inciting the January 6 Capitol insurrection and the GOP’s backing of legislators like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA.). Greene faced backlash for her previous social media posts endorsing the killing of Democrats and for baseless and bizarre QAnon-based conspiracy theories.

He also slammed GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA.) for continuously supporting the former president despite initially saying that Trump was accountable for the riot. Kinzinger also cited the Republicans’ move to oust the House Republican chair and Rep. Liz Cheney (WY.) for voting in favor of Trump’s impeachment.

The letter was penned on January 8, two days after the infamous US Capitol siege where pro-Trump mob stormed the legislative house, resulting in five deaths.
