  • The chairman of the Jan. 6 House panel confirmed that Ivanka Trump answered questions regarding communications with her father on January 6, 2021.
  • Ivanka was initially asked to appear in late January.
  • Her husband, Jared Kushner, was interviewed for over six hours last week.

Ivanka Trump has voluntarily appeared before the Jan. 6 House panel, the committee chairman said on Tuesday.

The former first daughter appeared virtually and had been answering questions for several hours, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told NBC News.

According to Thompson, Ivanka cooperated and did not assert any claim of privilege.

Ivanka’s husband, Jared Kushner, also appeared last week and answered the committee’s questions for over six hours.

Committee member Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) said that while Kushner gave “precise” answers and “didn’t volunteer anything,” he “did answer questions, if he remembered the answers. So it was not a combative or a, you know, volatile exchange at all.”

Ivanka was initially asked to appear before the committee in late January to answer questions about her communications with her father, as well as contact between him and then-Vice President Mike Pence on Jan. 6, 2021.

Thompson’s letter to Ivanka requested for her “voluntary cooperation,” given that she was “serving as Advisor to the President and head of the White House Office of Economic Initiatives and Entrepreneurship, and were present in the West Wing of the White House,” on Jan. 6.

Thompson’s request clarified that she would only be asked questions about issues related to Jan. 6, “activities that contributed to or influenced events” on that day, or her “role in the White House during that period.”

At the time, Ivanka did not confirm her appearance but also did not reject the request.

Her spokesperson said, “Ivanka Trump just learned that the January 6 Committee issued a public letter asking her to appear.”

The spokesperson reiterated that “Ivanka did not speak at the January 6 [ ‘Stop the Steal’] rally.” They added that the former first daughter “publicly stated that day at 3:15pm, ‘any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful.’”

There have been reports in February that Ivanka was in negotiations with the committee to appear.
