Jan. 6 committee names Republican lawmakers who requested Trump pardon [Video]
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Former White House aides testified to the Jan. 6 select committee that six House Republicans sought presidential pardons in the aftermath of the Capitol attack.
- The panel identified the six GOP lawmakers who sought January 6-related pardons.
- Rep. Liz Cheney previously said Republican Rep. Scott Perry was one pardon seeker.
- Others named were Reps. Andy Biggs, Mo Brooks, Matt Gaetz, Louie Gohmert, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
The Jan. 6 committee on Thursday identified six House Republicans who asked for presidential pardons in the aftermath of the Capitol attack.
The six GOP congressmen include Reps. Mo Brooks of Alabama, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Matt Gaetz of Florida, Louie Gohmert of Texas, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.
Biggs and Perry have already denied asking for a pardon.
Brooks sent an email with the subject line: “Pardons” to White House officials five days after the Capitol riot. According to Brooks, then-President Donald Trump had instructed him to send the letter and that it was “pursuant to a request” from Gaetz for pardons for those two and other lawmakers.
“I recommend that President give general (all purpose) pardons to the following groups of people: … Every Congressman and Senator who voted to reject the electoral college vote submissions of Arizona and Pennsylvania,” Brooks’ email said.
Eric Herschmann, a former Trump White House lawyer, said he specifically remembered Gaetz asking for a pardon.
“The general tone was: We may get prosecuted because we were defensive of, you know, the president’s positions on these things,” Herschmann said in recorded testimony played during Thursday’s hearing. “The pardon that he was discussing, requesting, was as broad as you could describe. …
Another Trump White House official, Cassidy Hutchinson, testified that the group of GOP lawmakers asking for pardons consisted of the same conservatives who attended the Dec. 21, 2020 meeting at the White House with Trump and his chief of staff, Mark Meadows. They allegedly strategized how to overturn the 2020 election.
Hutchinson also testified that Rep. Jim Jordan “talked about congressional pardons, but he never asked me for one.
Committee members said that revelations that six GOP lawmakers sought pardons from Trump suggest that they had knowledge they were potentially breaking the law.
“The only reason I know to ask for a pardon is because you think you’ve committed a crime,” said Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., a vocal Trump critic who played a prominent role in Thursday’s hearing.
None of the GOP lawmakers ultimately got pardons.
As the hearing ended, Brooks issued a statement saying he would voluntarily testify before the panel if five conditions are met, including that his testimony be made in public and that only members of Congress be permitted to ask questions.

Trump started Our education, that being the good guys, the ones that always give in, is only going to get you sitting on the floor wondering what hit you! Best to give equal for equal!!there are smart ways to accomplish this, without stooping to the dirty tricks the Democrats use!
As far as the “Pardon Requests”…the Dems are still the King of Pardons! I’ve also heard from those involved, that many were inquiring about Pardons for those wrongly accused of “Insurrection “ that their Family Members were asking for Pardons. I know this was the case of Mo Brooks!

can actually get away with this, when for the entirety of President Trump’s time in office, the DNC/Hillary Clinton Cartel, launched a real “Insurrection” against Trump! They dogged then President Trump, trying to use the Democrat Party as the Cudgel!
What we have seen, is the continuation of the prior Impeachment carnival now, under the cover, of the 1/6 Committee!! We are being treated to Trump Impeachment 3.0!

Why the use of the National Guard was turned down?!
Why Capital Police Equipment was being stored in buses?!
Why some, “ so called Insurrectionist’s, were escorted into and sometimes through the Capital, by Capital Police?!
When was Nancy Pelosi notified of potential disruption of the proceedings on 1/6?!
Where was Pelosi durning the riot?!
Hoe does one commit an Insurrection without guns?!
Who was Ray Epps and what was hos exact function regarding 1/6?!
Why can’t the American People, see all the surveillance tapes on 1/6?!
Why has there been no movement regarding the bomber seen near the Democrat and Republican Offices in DC?!
Are they even actively looking for this man?!
I could go on and on with questions that need to be asked and answered!
Clearly this Side Show, has nothing to do with what went wrong during 1/6 and how to prevent such a thing from happening again, rather, it’s about Impeaching Trump 3.0, and we’ve heard it all before, every bloody day, about how Trump was in bed with the Russian’s, and some continue to push that narrative , even after it was proven to be a story made up by Clinton and her attack Dogs!!
I’ve gone on far too long… but you get the idea, Trump was a problem, they wanted taken care of with no chance he would ever run again!

Kirsten, you didn’t go on too long; all good comments. I don’t blame any Republicans for asking for pardons with these Democrats in. Re the 2020 election, fraud had been found in several states and continues to be found. Now they’re even finding fraud re 2022 election: in NM, they found the Dominion voting machines were found to be flipping votes, changing numbers, etc., in the Primary election just completed there. Dems are fighting doing anything about it or looking at outcomes. Project Veritas had a video, already verified by a court, showing a relative of Ilhan Omar, saying she was paying them $20/ballot they’d bring to her during the 2020 election, ones they harvested from elderly citizens living facilities. He had thousands stacked up to the seat tops, front and back, with Minnesota ballots. Minnesota wasn’t a “swing state”, but it apparently was in play as citizens there said they knew it was. Was Omar ever charged with voter fraud FELONY.
I have no doubt it was a fraudulent election to get Biden in; a COUP by voter fraud.
The bomb by the DNC Bldg? All those pics of the guy carrying it, bench sitting, etc, on January 6 yet never found him. FBI announced they were searching for more bombs inside and outside the DNC BLDG. But we soon found out THEY DIDN’T EVAC THE BLDG BEFORE SEARCHING. And we found Kamala Harris was not at the Capitol; she said SHE WAS AT THE DNC BLDG ATTENDING A MEETING! She was NOT evacuated.. ..our VP! Obviously the FBI knew the bomb was fake and that there would be no bomb in the building, either. No bomb, no evac of our VICE PRESIDENT. At least they could have faked there was a real bomb, but they hadn’t expected HARRIS to tell news people she was in the DNC BUILDING during that time.
Dems are very corrupt and nasty, but very sloppy. And setting up the J6 Committee as an illegal committee, very one sided, questions only by one side, refusing to produce evidence, videos, and immediately said Pelosi was OFF LIMITS FOR QUESTIONING, and HER EMAILS, CALLS, MEMOS, TEXTS were also OFF LIMITS. They have edited videos, deleted sections of them to completely change meanings. Like even deleted video of Trump rally speech that day, deleting “Go peacefully” and changed it to “Go and fight like hell!”. I saw the televised speech and heard him say PEACEFULLY. THIS COMMITTEE LIES.
The panel leader, Thompson, re 2004 election, had asked for the certification of the electoral votes so the election process could be INVESTIGATED FOR FRAUD. The SAME AS TRUMP HAD WANTED AND THE GOP Reps and Senators had asked for re 2020 election. Fine re 2004, but a crime to overthrow an elected president in 2020.

Is it ALSO “criminal” conduct to seek Legal Counsel when accused of a crime (even if one is 100% INNOCENT)?
If I were likely to be dragged before this Kangaroo Court, I’d probably seek a PARDON (to protect myself) also – and I wasn’t even IN Washington, DC on January 6th, nor do I have ANY association with President Trump (other than I voted for him – TWICE)!

So a real insurrection happened when Democrats stormed the capital and tried to take down statues in front of the capitol a few years back. It was extremely violent yet no one seems to care when a real insurrection takes place. This was an even more planned attack than the morons who thought there would be no reprecussions on Jan 6.
