Jan. 6 panel subpoenas Trump for testimony on Capitol attack [Video]

- Committee members said that they have gathered enough evidence pointing to Trump as the lead instigator of the Capitol attack.
- Rep. Liz Cheney put forward the subpoena resolution, saying that answers are needed from “Jan. 6th’s key player.”
The House panel investigating the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, has unanimously voted to subpoena former President Donald Trump.
Thursday’s meeting marked the committee’s 10th and likely final public hearing before the November midterms. The panel was originally meant to showcase new evidence and summary findings, but after nearly 16 months of investigation, the committee finally decided to hold a vote to subpoena Trump himself.
Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) proposed the resolution to subpoena the former president, saying, “We are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion. Every American is entitled to those answers, so we can act now to protect our republic.”
Cheney continued, “We must seek the testimony under oath of Jan. 6th’s key player.”
The committee, made up of seven Democrats and two anti-Trump Republicans, unanimously voted in favor of the resolution. Panel members said that they had gathered sufficient evidence proving that Trump instigated the Capitol attack.
The subpoena compels the former president to issue documents and testimony regarding his conduct leading up to and during the Jan. 6 attack.
Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) stated, “This is a question about accountability to the American people. He’s required to answer to those millions of Americans whose votes he tried to throw out as part of his scheme to remain in power.”
Trump, who has called the investigation a partisan witch hunt, has previously refused to cooperate and even encouraged his allies and former staffers to do the same.
The work of the Jan. 6 panel could fall apart if Trump refuses to comply with the subpoena. The current Congress only has over two months left, and there is the possibility of Republicans taking over the House after the midterms.
A similar effort to subpoena former Presidents John Tyler and John Quincy Adams was made in the 1840s over clandestine intelligence issues, but the presidents did not provide information. Former President Harry Truman also did not comply with a subpoena by the Committee on Un-American Activities.

I am so so so damned sick of all of the hearings. They are doing anything and everything that they can to keep Trump from running again. It has gotten to the point that whenever I hear anything about the January 6 committee I get up and either leave the room or shut off the television. Surely I am not the only one that is sick of the democrats investigating the January 6 th ” insurrection .”which was not a true insurrection. No one tried to overthrow the government which is another one of their lies . And I believe that only one person died and it was a lady that had a heart attack I believe it was a day or two after the ” insurrection “. . The only reason that they don’t want Trump ro run again is because everything that he touched prospered . Biden , that laughing hyena v p Harris Nancy Pelosis Adam Shiff and Chuck Schummer wouldn’t be able to stand up to the kind of scrutiny to which they have subjected President Trump as far as I am concerned they are all as worthless as teets on a bore hog and I am being generous that that’s all that I am calling that worthless bunch of ****.

A veteran woman was murdered by capital police, a woman was bludgeoned to death by capital police, and now a capital police officer is lying on the stand against oath keepers who kept him from shooting unarmed protesters. Capital police are untrained cowards.
