WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Kanye West declared that rather than running for president, he was just “walking,” in a text interview Thursday by Forbes.
  • The rapper hinted that his White House bid is designed to draw votes from the Democratic nominee Joe Biden.
  • It was earlier reported that some senior Republicans were helping Kanye to qualify for presidential ballots in key states

Rapper Kanye West indicated on Thursday that his presidential campaign is designed to sabotage former Vice President Joe Biden’s bid to defeat President Trump this November, according to a Forbes report.

West was interviewed thru text messaging by a Forbes editor on Thursday after reports that a handful of Republicans were helping get the rapper on the ballot in key states. Allegedly, the move is to help Trump’s reelection campaign and siphon votes away from Biden.

When asked about the motivation for his 2020 presidential bid, Kanye said that he was not running, instead, he was “walking,” adding that he was “walking… to win.”

The rapper was able to file paperwork to appear on the ballot in eight states, however, they are not enough to meet the Electoral College threshold of 270 votes.

When asked about those numbers and the idea that his campaign would serve as a Biden spoiler, Kanye replied in a text, “I’m not going to argue with you.”

The rapper was again asked about hurting Biden’s bid for the White House, “I’m not denying it; I just told you,” he replied, according to the report.

In late July, Kanye posted on Twitter that he could “beat Biden off of write-ins.”

On Monday, the New York Times reported that at least four Republican-linked campaign operatives have made efforts to help get Kanye onto the ballots in multiple states. That includes potential battlegrounds like Wisconsin and Ohio.

Kanye got help from a Wisconsin lawyer with deep Republican ties. Attorney Lane Ruhland, who’s working with Trump’s campaign, hand-delivered the rapper’s nomination papers at the Wisconsin Elections Commission.

Another Republican who helped Kanye’s filing was Mark Jacoby, who was arrested 12 years ago on voter fraud charges while doing work for the California Republican Party.

Kanye had reportedly hired Jacoby’s company ahead of this week’s deadline to get on the Wisconsin ballot.

Jacoby told the Times his company is nonpartisan and that “anyone who is qualified to stand for election has the right to run.”

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future” he wrote. “I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION.”

According to the Forbes editor who interviewed Kanye, “texts from West to me earlier this summer repeatedly ended with the sign-off “Trump 2020,” and a fist raised high. “
