Kinzinger: Cheney’s loss shows ‘frightening’ rise of pro-Trump GOP [Video]
- Adam Kinzinger said that colleague Liz Cheney’s primary loss to Trump-backed Harriet Hageman marks the rise of a “next generation” of pro-Trump Republicans.
- He remarked that this party is “committed to conspiracy.”
- Kinzinger said that these new potential lawmakers believe Trump’s election claims, unlike the current Congress members.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) lamented the loss of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) in her primary race in Wyoming. He expressed his concerns that the results suggested the rise of a new generation of Republican lawmakers who believe in former President Donald Trump’s baseless election fraud claims.
Kinzinger and Cheney both serve on the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot. Kinzinger explained that while many of the current members of Congress do not believe in Trump’s election lies, the members of this new generation “do believe these conspiracies.” He considered it to be a “very frightening” prospect that they could be newly-elected Congress members next year.
During an interview with MSNBC‘s Alex Wagner, Kinzinger stated, “This isn’t your dad’s Republican party anymore. This isn’t a party that’s committed to truth. This is a party that’s committed to conspiracy.”
Cheney, who openly criticized Trump and voted for his impeachment after the Capitol riot, lost the Wyoming Republican primary to Trump-backed Harriet Hageman, a natural resources lawyer.
After previously calling Trump “racist and xenophobic” in 2016, Hageman recently changed her tune and promoted his election claims to earn his support. She won the primary with 65.98% of the votes.
Like Hageman, many Republican candidates who voiced their support for Trump and his election claims gained his endorsement. Several will be first-time members of Congress should they win in the mid-term elections. This list includes Bo Hines, who won the primary for North Carolina’s 13th Congressional District; Mehmet Oz, who narrowly clinched the Republican senate primary in Pennsylvania in June; J.D. Vance, who won his Ohio senate primary race.
Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney. She has been part of a political dynasty in the state, having held Wyoming’s sole congressional seat for five years.
Cheney may have lost her primary, but her allies believe that her political career has not ended yet. Some even suggested a 2024 presidential run.
Kinzinger added in his interview that Cheney is still “very determined, very dogged” in her fight and “will chase Donald Trump to the gates of hell, that’s for sure.”

Well sir kinsinger I live in the corrupt state of illinois only in the next district that you serve.First sloppy joey is a horrible president.Second under President Trump our country was recovering from barry nonobambas anti AMERICAN agenda,And third President Trump did this recovery thing on his own even with the democRATs beating him down all of the time and almost no help from the wimpy Republicans.He is a business man,not a politician and he did very well.Maybe its time to ditch politicians for people that have to work for a living.

I feel the same… No more voting for politicians. Businessmen are more in step with economy, need for law & order, welfare of the USA rather than going to DC to enrich/fatten their financial status. Sooo mind boggling how so many go to
DC with little finances but in a few years they are wealthy, learn how to skirt taxes and a spouse certain life r&r’s…. None of which they follow. Have you noticed???

Kinzinger is clearly using psychological projection, “a defense mechanism by which your own traits and emotions are attributed to someone else”. After all it is the democrats, whom Kinzinger obviously identifies with, that have been manufacturing the conspiracy theories, think the debunked Russian collusion, the two impeachment attempts, etc… Kinzinger is on the wrong side of history and time will prove it out.

Shades of Jeff “ the flake”, Flake who didn’t run for re election, he knew he wouldn’t win because people of Arizona didn’t trust him. Next to go will be Mark Kelly and Kyrsten Sinema, they will not be re elected either. And also joe Manchin, he stabbed us all in the back, so did Sinema, going for crooked schumer’s Bill that “ reduces infaltion”, which it doesn’t. Manchin was played, schumer succered him big time, now he has to answer for it, so does Sinema.

Adam. We the people, of which Trump is uncovered the steal pretty much as it was happening. There are no “Trump election claims”. And while, indeed, there was a conspiracy, there is no theory involved. Just known facts.
Fyi, a good example of a true conspiracy theory is “j6 insurrection”. Other good ones: Russia Gate and Trump holding nuclear secrets at Maralago. You really should rethink who is the party of conspiracy?!
