WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Former President Donald Trump has pledged to help GOP retake Congress dominion in 2022, per House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA.)
  • Trump also issued a statement, praising the efforts of his former White House management and budget director Russ Vought.
  • He is set to face his impeachment trial before the Senate in February.

After speaking with the former president on Thursday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that Donald Trump has committed to helping GOPs regain control of Congress in 2022.

McCarthy went to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where the former POTUS has been residing since his White House departure last week.

“Today, President Trump committed to helping elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2022. A Republican majority will listen to our fellow Americans and solve the challenges facing our nation. Democrats, on the other hand, have only put forward an agenda that divides us — such as impeaching a President who is now a private citizen and destroying blue-collar energy jobs. For the sake of our country, the radical Democrat agenda must be stopped,” McCarthy said in a statement.

“House Republicans and the Trump administration achieved historic results for all Americans. We were able to do this because we listened to and understood the concerns of our fellow citizens that had long been ignored. As a result, House Republicans defied the experts and the media by expanding our growing coalition across the country,” he added.

In a statement by Trump’s office, it said: “President Trump’s popularity has never been stronger than it is today, and his endorsement means more than perhaps any endorsement at any time.”

Referring to McCarthy, the statement wrote: “They worked very well together in the last election and picked up at least 15 seats when most predicted it would be the opposite. They will do so again, and the work has already started.”

The meeting, according to Trump’s office, “was a very good and cordial one. They discussed many topics, number one of which was taking back the House in 2022.”

On Thursday, the former president also released a statement lauding the efforts of his White House management and budget director Russ Vought, who recently established the Center for American Restoration to achieve Trump’s policy plans.

“Russell Vought did a fabulous job in my administration, and I have no doubt he will do a great job in continuing our quest to make America great again,” Trump’s statement as issued by Vought’s organization.

Vought is known as a staunch ally of the president, who initiated policies like intimidating cities to suspend federal funding if they don’t do what the president wants.

Since leaving the White House on January 20, Trump has been quiet and had not made any public appearance nor press conference.

In February, the former president will face an impeachment trial in the Senate for accusations of inciting the January 6 Capitol violence, which ended in five fatalities.

While there were 10 House GOPs who voted in favor of his impeachment, 45 Senate members voted to reject his impeachment trial, citing unconstitutional reasons.
