Palisades Victims Slam LA Cruel Fines

Clear Facts
- Los Angeles fire victims received $31 brush clearance noncompliance bills over a year after Palisades Fire destroyed their homes.
- The fire ignited on January 7, 2025, claiming 31 lives and razing about 16,000 structures.
- Less than 4% of residents have begun rebuilding one year later.
Victims of government bureaucracy now face additional insult amid their losses.
Councilwoman Traci Park called the automated notices from the Los Angeles Fire Department "tone-deaf."
Her office is coordinating with LAFD leadership to resolve the matter.
Mayor Karen Bass’ office labeled the bills "unacceptable."
Christine Martinez, who lost her home, described receiving the bill as “one final blow.”
“This is one final blow. After everything that happened, they’re still trying to take money,” Martinez said.
“I’m not paying it. It’s the principle of it,” she added.
Martinez attempted to call the listed number but found the voicemail full.
She wrote to the city last week without response.
“They said to write, so I wrote last week and haven’t heard anything,” she explained.
Carol Sanborn, who lost her 40-year home, expressed astonishment.
“I was a little astonished because there’s no house and no brush,” Sanborn said.
“A lot of people are just angry about it,” she said.
Sanborn deems the bill “insulting and cruel” and refuses payment.
Brush rules mandate cutting grass to specific heights, legal debris disposal, and avoiding clearance on red flag days.
City hall must end this outrageous overreach against devastated families.
Stand with victims—demand accountability from liberal bureaucrats.
